🍋 A SEASON OF LEMONADE, LESSONS & BIG DREAMS 🍋
Now that our season has wrapped up, we’ve been reflecting on just how much has happened since we started this little business.
At the beginning of the year, both boys wanted to be chefs. We thought we were helping them start a business, but somewhere along the way, Funky Lemon became something bigger for all of us.
The boys met their financial goals and learned to save. They learned (sometimes grumpily) about budgeting, expenses, and those pesky taxes. They practiced math, percentages, and all the other behind-the-scenes things that come with running a business.
And we discovered that customer service and communication are skills that always leave room for improvement. 😉 Learning to explain what you're selling, talk to customers, and help people understand your product takes practice. We'll keep working on that!
The boys are growing, and so are their dreams.
Landon has decided he's pretty happy with our business. He's shown some interest in the dreaming and planning side of things, including ideas about getting a trailer and expanding someday. He enjoys the front-of-house side of the business, too.
Right now, though, he's really interested in wildlife biology and dreams of working for National Geographic in some capacity. We've started exploring all the creative ways he might combine that degree with the things he loves or is interested in- writing, photography (who knew!), national parks, and wildlife. It's fun to dream alongside him and help him see that there might be more than one path to the future he's imagining. 🐾🌎
Jace still wants to be a chef and has started dreaming about owning a food truck someday. He's thinking breakfast, and honestly, we're all in for it! He's loved helping me create recipes and making drinks for The Funky Lemon. Our little Flavor Lab scientist is always thinking about what to make next. 🧪🍋
And then there's Colby and me.
We've realized that what started as a business for the boys has turned into something we genuinely love, too. We've started dreaming about what expanding The Funky Lemon might look like alongside them.
But one of our favorite parts has nothing to do with business.
It's the time we've spent together. Sometimes we're all tucked into a quiet tent, away from screens, workweek distractions, and the million other things competing for our attention. The boys grumble sometimes, because they're kids, and not every family adventure is going to be their favorite but we feel closer as a family after this summer.
We've also gotten to introduce them to things we love: farmers markets, craft shows, shopping local, eating local, and getting to know the people behind the things we buy. And they're starting to discover their own favorites. Cheese and soap, apparently. 🧀🧼
It's been really neat to watch them become more curious about where things come from, who makes them, and what goes into the products we use and enjoy.
We're grateful for the relationships we've built with other vendors and the little community we've become part of. And we're especially grateful for the support our hometown has shown us. You've helped our boys learn, grow, work toward goals, and experience what it feels like to build something of their own.
Thank you for being part of their story.
We're tired and sore this morning, but our hearts are full. We have a lot to be proud of this season, and we're already excited to see what comes next.
Look for us in April… or maybe even sooner. Who knows what we'll dream up between now and then?
