86-year-old Tom and his little brother Jerry drove 1000 miles from Illinois to our shop in Austin with a lefty nylon string Taylor in tow chasing the legendary Prismatone sound.

Tom’s guitar looked good but was suffering from a few common afflictions — poor tone and bad feedback brought on by the usual culprit, a stock factory under saddle piezo strip pickup, the bane of our existence.

Fortunately for Tom a new Prismatone Classic pickup — with its balanced tonal range, powerful output and native feedback resistance — is a cure-all for his and other similarly handicapped nylon string guitars.

Because Tom drove so far out of his way to visit our shop (he didn’t trust the postal carriers to ship his guitar safely and prefers to deal in cash 🤣) I set everything else aside to do his Prismatone install the same afternoon.

So Tom’s Taylor guitar woke up a much happier-sounding instrument, and after a night at the historic Driscoll Hotel just down 6th Street, a very pleased Tom and Jerry hit the long road home to continue spreading the legend of Prismatone.

We’ve been very fortunate to collaborate with the great luthier Mark Erlewine of Erlewine Guitars over the years as we worked to reinvent the original Prismatone Pickup.

We continue to benefit from Mark’s great expertise and wit as Prismatone further expands its lineup of acoustic and electric guitar pickups and gear to more and more styles of guitarists and guitar music.

Sometimes in life a favorite musician becomes a friend. Enter Kevin Russell of The Gourds and fame to the Prismatone shop during SXSW.

So you hand him a ‘69 N-20 with a Prismatone pickup in it and he starts playing this classic Willie song, Hands on the Wheel, and you sit back and let him drive.

Singer and songwriter Drew Landry stopped by ’s “Fais Do Do” program this morning, bringing a taste of Louisiana roots music to the Austin airwaves.

Fans who missed the broadcast will have several chances to catch Landry live during SXSW at a series of events featuring Prismatone Pickups on stages across town.

Fingerstyle, classical, flamenco, country . . .

The Prismatone Pickups and Sand Guitars booth at this year’s NAMM Show 2026 made for a laid back sanctuary of all styles nylon string guitar music to the stars.

Many thanks to our new and old friends and guitarists, luthiers and music lovers who stayed and played the historical lineup of Prismatone-equipped guitars like Willie’s Trigger and the special collection of world-famous Kirk Sand acoustic-electric nylon string guitars, some new, others old enough to have actually belonged to Chet and Jerry.
