Bookwoman

Bookwoman Support Your Feminist Bookstore, She Supports You! BookWoman began 45 years ago in an upstairs shop on Guadalupe.

We started out as a collective called The Common Woman Bookstore (based on the Judy Grahn poem). From there we moved into Susan Post's house at the time, and then we became BookWoman and moved to 6th Street. Then we moved to 12th and Lamar, and since 2008 we're located at 5501 North Lamar. BookWoman is located on Tonkawa, Comanche and Apache land. As you remember your own rich herstory with BookWo

man or as you start your sure-to-be-long relationship with her, remember that where you spend your dollars does make a difference.

1. Shop at BookWoman and tell your friends, neighbors, and family to shop here, too.
2. Give a BookWoman gift certificate to your friends and to all of the women and girls in your life.
3. BookGroups, order your group selections from BookWoman.
4. Authors, invite us to sell books at your publication parties and speaking engagements.
5. Proclaim your individuality with t-shirts and jewelry from BookWoman

Happy birthday to Judy Grahn , internationally-recognized poet, writer, and social theorist. She is the author of fourteen books including the groundbreaking Another Mother Tongue, Blood, Bread, and Roses: How Menstruation Created the World, and most recently, A Simple Revolution. Eruptions of Inanna, The Highest Apple, and Hanging on Our Own Bones.

In her trademark lusciously erotic writing, Judy Grahn illuminates eight dramatic stories exploring the Mesopotamian goddess Inanna’s power and relevance for contemporary q***r feminist audiences. Psychologically rich, morally and ethically exhilarating, passionate and full of life, the stories collected in Eruptions of Inanna: Justice, Gender, and Erotic Power reimagine central western myths, including the book of Job and Gilgamesh with women and q***r people as central actors. In every sentence, Grahn proves how revisiting origin stories is a vital world-making activity.

“This is a poet’s study of ancient poems, delightfully readable, exuberant, and filled with refreshing vitality." (Ariana Reines)

"Eruptions of Inanna may be her most ambitious, groundbreaking work. At the heart of the work is the retelling of the myths surrounding Inanna and their startling afterlives in both high culture and rebel communities. Drawing from studies of Sumerian culture, religious scholarship, poetry, art, myth, and a wealth of shared imaginations, Grahn—poet, prophet, seer and soothsayer—draws forth Inanna from myth to majesty.” (Michael Bronski)

Judy Grahn's Eruptions of Inanna: Justice, Gender, and Erotic Power and The Highest Apple: Sappho and the Le***an Poetic Tradition are Sapphic Classics from Sinister Wisdom, reprint editions of iconic works of le***an writing—or new works—from influential le***an writers. Inaugurated in 2013 with Crime Against Nature by Minnie Bruce Pratt, the Sapphic Classics series brings important collections of le***an writing back into print, making them available to reach new readers. You can find Sapphic Classics wherever you buy your books—or on our website sinisterwisdom.org, linked in our bio.
