Tiffany’s favorite album this week is “Tighten Up” by Archie & The Drells! The funky R&B vocal group from Houston, formed in 1966 and best known for the title track on this LP.

But don’t sleep on her personal favorite track on the album, their cover of Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood,” a funky, high energy twist on the soul classic. This is an album you should put on with your friends and force them to get up and dance. 🕺

When you put the album on, it’s just Archie says… “I just can’t stop dancing.”

Please join us in wishing the happiest of birthdays to our friend Macy! A true believer in the Antone’s mission, and one of the hardest working people we know. Macy has become an integral part of all things Big Henry’s, Magic Isle and Antone’s, and we couldn’t be luckier to call her a part of our family. 💙

“If someone buys this record, I’m going to quit my job…” said she’s kidding, but THAT’s how much she loves this album.

You need to know Kim Weston. Her voice is fabulous. Born in Detroit in 1939 and a Motown artist in the ‘60s, it’s this sneaky, under-the-radar recording on the Stax/Volt label that takes the cake for us.

Amongst all her accomplishments, there’s perhaps none more notable than her recording of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song she sang to open the Wattstax music festival, and a single which she donated every dollar she made from to the UNCF, funding scholarships for Black students at 37 different history black campuses across the country.

And when it becomes to the underrated Volt record “Kim Kim Kim,” there isn’t a bad song on the record.
