My faithful companion through thick & thin. He’s been by my side for almost 8 years, and I couldn’t imagine a better friend to spend the days with.

Here’s another guitar that Lynn brought in. A well loved Gibson Melody Maker, with the serial number dating it to 1965.

I did a full setup with extra attention given to restoring the fingerboard, frets & finish. It also received a full rewire with all new parts & wire, a new pickup (the original had been replaced with a strat pickup which was doa). The bridge had been replaced with a Leo Quan at some point & was pretty sloppily slotted, so a bit of time was spent on that fixing the slots & adjusting the string spacing.

After everything was completed, it turned out great. A LOT more could have been done, and would have been warranted if this were someone’s gigging guitar, but again, that would have been overkill for her needs.

Roughly 50 years old, and with some continued tlc, it’ll easily last another 50. Definitely a fun & rewarding day on the bench.

These are honestly the jobs that are super rewarding. Lynn brought in a few of her late husband’s guitars for assessment & some tlc.

This Yamaha FG-140 was in surprisingly good condition. It has the typical shallow neck angle, had a very dry fingerboard, oxidized & chattered frets, and a bit of a film over much of the finish.

If this was going to be someone’s main guitar, I’d realistically have recommended a neck reset, and depending on the player - possibly even a refret & new saddle & nut. That would have been overkill for her needs & budget, so I just recommended a full setup with a little extra attention given to a few things. The frets were cleaned up & polished smooth, fingerboard cleaned & well-oiled, the saddle was taken down as low as possible while also adding compensation into the top, and the bridge string slots in the bridge were deepened to accommodate the lower saddle height while retaining good string pressure. Along with addressing the nut slots, setting the neck relief & polishing the finish to bring it back to life - all in all it ended up being a great playing & sounding guitar!

I finally made an IG for shop stuff because who doesn't need more social media pages these days?! Follow the hieroglyphic below, or link: https://www.instagram.com/axis_guitars/

I'll start filling it out little by little & you'll likely see some of your guitars posted.

Hey all, I've been pretty non existent on fb, but worth mention is that we've made a big move down to Austin, TX. The shop is officially set up & ready to take in work. Contact info has been updated. I'm working out of my house again to keep things easy breezy (that, and the cost of space is through the roof everywhere now). The phone number is being set up & should be active next week, but I can be reached through here or email until then. I'll also be setting up an Instagram for shop stuff.
As a question to anyone seeing this - do you follow (and keep track of) stuff on FB or IG more these days? Seems like IG is where more people post & interact.

If ya'll know anyone in the area, send 'em my way. And of course, if you're touring or traveling through, stop by & let's catch up!

After an extra looooong hiatus, I'm happy to announce that Axis Guitars has officially reopened in Eagle, ID. What was originally supposed to be a six-ish month break for some needed R&R while I road tripped with Bodhi, visiting friends & scouting new locations with a plan of reopening in March/April of 2020, turned into a prolonged break as March of 2020 unfolded in a way likely none of us expected. During all that nonsense, I found myself a bit displaced & not really knowing what to do as the country went into full panic mode. As many could guess, it wasn't the best time to move/settle & open a biz in a new town, so on & off I stayed with family, continued to road trip a bit, visited friends, made a few along the way, scouted new spots & then unexpectedly I met someone & we just celebrated our son's first birthday. After a spending some time on the east coast where I grew up, we decided to trek back west, looking for a quieter & calmer spot to land, surrounded by nature & mountains of course, and settled on Eagle, ID - about 15/20 minutes outside of Boise.

I'll be working out of my home shop initially (possibly permanently), which should help keep overhead down as well as allow my partner & I to juggle childcare. I'll be going back to an appointment only format, and will look into getting an online scheduling system going, but for now just give a ring & I'll set you up with a time to drop by. Working from home will allow me to expand my hours & should hopefully help navigate people's busy schedules.

While I'm bummed that my new location won't do any of my bay area peeps much good, as it would be a sincere pleasure to see so many of you & catch up - if you find yourself touring or passing through the Boise area, look me up & say hi. If you have friends or know bands in the area, let them know I'm here! I'm always immensely grateful when people refer friends to me! And as before, Bodhi is still glued to my hip excited to meet everyone that drops by!

Some of you have expressed interest in setting up appointments as you're traveling / touring through, or even shipping instruments to me when I reopened... Of course! If you're coming through & want to have anything worked on, I'll be happy to make an appointment & block off the necessary time to get you in & out.

I hope this message finds everyone healthy, happy & hopefully making some good music!

The shop will be closed next week (5/7 through 5/11). We'll be back in for normal hours on 5/14.
For anyone that has finished repairs in the shop, drop in by Sat to grab em!

03/15/2019

Hey kids! Just letting y'all know that the shop will be closed next Tuesday 3/19...normal hours for the rest of the week.
The extended Wednesday lunch breaks are over, so that's back to normal next week as well.
Enjoy the sunny weekend!

Hi all! I’m at an appt that’s running a hair late this morning, so we’ll be opening at 12:30 today! Apologies for any inconvenience!

02/27/2019

Hey all, I have to run out briefly to get a tire patched. Oh, Oakland...never a dull moment! Let's just say drop by after lunch (4pm for the extended Wed break) if ya need!

02/22/2019

Hey everyone. So, there's an OUSD rally going on at the school one block from OMC (the building I'm in for those that don't know...) & there is less than zero parking. It's a madhouse over here, so I'm strongly recommending not attempting to drop by the shop today. It took me over 20 minutes to luck into a parking spot, and I'll have to move my car from where I'm parked now, and not even sure if I'll be able to find another spot closer to the building...but will definitely update y'all if for some reason I can't find parking and am forced to close for the rest of the day...

02/12/2019

Hey all, just a heads up that the shop will be closing at 6:00 tommorrow (Wed 2/13) & the extended lunch break on Wednesdays is still in affect (pinned to the top of the page).
