Is it a Violin or a Fiddle? 🧐🎻

The short answer? It’s the same instrument! The long answer? It’s all about the soul (and a few setup secrets). 🤫

While the wood and strings are the same, the “ ” and “ ” worlds have drifted apart over centuries of tradition.

Here’s the breakdown:
✨ The Setup: Many fiddlers prefer a flatter bridge to make playing “double stops” (two strings at once) easier for those fast folk tunes. Classical violinists keep a more arched bridge for clean, singular notes in a concerto.
✨ The Style: It’s about the “vibe.” Violins usually follow the sheet music exactly, while Fiddling is all about improvisation, rhythmic “chops,” and regional styles like Bluegrass or Celtic.
✨ The History: “Fiddle” actually comes from the Old English fithele, used long before the modern violin was even perfected!

The Big Question: Does your instrument have a “Fiddle” personality or a “Violin” personality? Or do you play both?

An intimate evening of Global Rhythms & Poetry at Blackerby 🎻🌟

The time has finally come friends for us to meet again!

Tonight, we present a unique musical fusion as Texas vocalist Elena Diaz joins forces with distinguished Cuban guitarist Jose Manuel Tejeda. Experience a captivating repertoire ranging from Brazilian bossa nova to Chanson française and jazz standards, all reinterpretated through a masterful Latin groove, flamenco styling and soulful improvisation.

To make the evening even more magical, we are honored to welcome writer and poet Julieta Corpus. Recently awarded a Creative Writing Residency at Tasajillo, Julieta’s poetry is powerful as she has described it as a “scream lodged in [her] throat that must be set free..”

This special performance is dedicated to supporting the performing arts in the Spanish language; a gathering of diverse communities coming together to celebrate art for art’s sake.
