Nettle Vinegar DIY! Our Nettle herb link: peace-outlet-2.myshopify.com

🌿 Ingredients:
2 cups fresh stinging nettle leaves and stems (or dried nettle leaves)

2 cups organic apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar

🌿 Instructions:
1. Prepare the Nettle:

If using fresh stinging nettles, wear gloves as the stinging hairs can irritate skin. The vinegar will deactivate the stinging hairs during infusion.

If using dried nettle leaves, gloves are not needed.

2. Jar Preparation: Place the nettles in a clean glass jar, filling it about a quarter to half full.

3. Add Vinegar: Pour the vinegar over the nettles, ensuring the plant material is completely submerged with a couple of inches of liquid above.

4. Seal and Store: Seal the jar with a plastic lid or use wax paper between a metal lid and the jar to protect it from the vinegar’s acidity. Store in a cool, dark cabinet for 3–6 weeks.

5. Shake Occasionally: Shake the jar every few days to ensure the nettles remain submerged and to help the infusion process.

6. Strain and Store: After the infusion period, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean jar or bottle. Label the jar with the date so you can track its age.

🌿 Storage:

Shelf Life: Nettle vinegar can last up to 1–2 years, but is best used within 1 year for maximum potency.

Storage: Vinegar acts as a preservative, so refrigeration is not necessary. Keep it in a cool, dark cabinet.

🌿 Harvesting Tip:

Harvest young nettles in early spring, before they start flowering, when the leaves are tender, nutrient-rich, and about 4–10 inches tall. Take the top leaves and stems for maximum benefit.

Proper Identification: True stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) has serrated, pointed leaves and fine stinging hairs. Avoid look-alike plants that do not sting or may be harmful.

🌿 How to Use Nettle Vinegar:

Salad Dressings & Cooking: Add to vinaigrettes, marinades, stir-fries, soups, or use as a lemon juice substitute.

Tonic: Dilute with water and consume as a daily tonic to boost minerals.
