Every once in a while something comes through the door that’s just plain cool.

This is a 1957 Gretsch 6120 that belonged to Bakersfield Sound legend Tommy Hays. Somewhere along the line, somebody ditched the Filter’Trons and dropped a pair of Gibson P-90s in it. Collector correct? Nope. Does it absolutely rip? You bet.

The best part is this wasn’t built to sit in a display case. It was built to make a living, and that’s exactly what it did. You can see it in every inch of the guitar. Flip it over and Tommy even carved his name into the back of the headstock.

We love guitars with stories. This one’s got a lifetime of them.

The Gibson Custom Shop just gets it sometimes.

This 60th Anniversary “Solid Hit” SG Custom is one of those guitars that reminds you why the Custom Shop exists.

Polaris White. Three Custombuckers. Gold hardware. The correct Sideways Vibrola. And yes, it comes complete with the original Solid Hit literature and all the case candy.

They’re not trying to reinvent anything here. They just took one of Gibson’s coolest moments, built it the right way, and absolutely nailed it.

We’re pretty excited this one found its way to Skylight.

Come by, plug it in, and see what all the fuss is about. Trades are always welcome.

How cool are these?!?

The legendary Tom Scholz Rockman X100 and the much rarer Bass Rockman.

Long before digital modelers, these little boxes were delivering polished, studio-ready tones straight to your headphones or recording rig. The X100 became an icon of ’80s guitar tone, while the Bass Rockman quietly became one of the toughest pieces in the lineup to find.

Ingenious design. Killer tones. A serious dose of nostalgia.

Anybody else have one of these back in the day? We’d love to hear your stories.

You probably don’t need another Les Paul.

You definitely don’t need this 2012 Gibson Custom Shop R8.

Weighing in at a comfortable 7 lbs. 12 oz., it’s proof that not every great Les Paul has to feel like you’re carrying a refrigerator.

You certainly don’t need to stop by Skylight Guitars and play it.

But if you do… don’t blame us when your current Les Paul suddenly doesn’t feel as special anymore.

Trades are always welcome. Poor financial decisions are between you and your accountant.

🚧 ATTENTION, ADVENTURERS. 🚧

Apparently, the fastest way to visit Skylight Guitars is now to take the scenic route.

Thanks to the ongoing downtown construction, M Street is closed to thru traffic. But don’t worry we’re still here, buying, selling, trading, and repairing guitars like always.

Here’s the cheat code:
➡️ Come in from L Street
➡️ Park in the restaurant parking lot next door
➡️ Walk a few extra steps
➡️ Reward yourself with guitars.

Sorry for the inconvenience. We didn’t close the road we just get to explain it all day.

If you’d like to share your thoughts on the construction, City Councilman Andrae Gonzalez is the elected official responsible for representing this area and is an appropriate person to contact about city projects.

Thanks for making the trip. We promise the guitars are easier to get to than the road signs would have you believe.

OK folks… we’re sliding into the middle of the week with this one. (See what we did there?)

Those slider controls are a pretty good hint.

Who can identify this beautiful vintage Silvertone? Bonus points if you can tell us the model and about what year it was made.

No Googling… we’re operating on the honor system.

Drop your guesses below and let’s see who the vintage guitar detectives are. 👇

This is a 1963 Fender Brownface Deluxe (6G3).

Around 20 watts of everything that made early ’60s Fender magical. Rich cleans, thick mids, and one of the best tremolos ever put into a guitar amplifier. Turn it up and it starts to snarl in a way that the later blackface amps never quite did.

This example has also been recently serviced by amp legend Danny Ghinn, whose work includes servicing and building some of the most sought-after Dumble amplifiers. It’s ready for its next chapter.

These don’t come through the door very often, and when they do, they don’t stick around. We have a feeling this one won’t last long.
