My truck will be down tomorrow for some upkeep that I have been putting off. I have a great mechanic. They started Friday afternoon but had to have some parts. It’s been a great couple of weeks of working everyday. I wanted to make a post for my memories to look back on because of my decision to hopefully finish out my working life in a dump truck. I only wished that I would have started in the dump truck business a lot sooner. I have no intention of trying to grow another company plus at 55 I’m thinking it would be too late in life to do so. Fortunately I’m very satisfied with just driving my truck. I am enjoying my life!

Anyway,
This week I am officially starting my 3rd year in the dump truck. 2 years behind me. I’ve learned a lot about the hauling business from some great folks. First business is business same as the flooring industry simply treat people good and do what you say you will do. Same as the flooring business there are some contractors who you learn to stay away from and others who are good as gold. With a good friends recommendation. I have been lucky 🍀 I found two companies who are amazing! I work for one or the other weekly and both are completely dependable with work and pay. 💰

On the other hand I’ve found four contractors that have proven to be the old fashioned type of con artists that I have dealt with over the last 40 years that I have been in business. I recognized there type from the start and should have known better than to get in the hole 🕳️ with them. The typical “the check is in the mail” or the very over used “the customer hasn’t paid us yet” type.

From 1986-2026 I have been contracting for myself Flooring and Trucking the transition between the two included driving across country in a truck but maintaining the flooring business. Now I am pretty much in the trucking business full time and only take own a few floors for existing customers. Like any business you have to learn from your own personal experience.

November will be 40 years! Crazy to think about, so much has changed over the years. The last three years since I posted this update I have transitioned into driving my Dump Truck full-time and still have a lot of customers that still call to have their floors refinished or get a new floor installed. I have enjoyed taking on a few projects. Now it’s what the future holds. I may jump into Flooring again full-time and sell the truck. 

I’m still here after 37 years, why?
The flooring industry is a competitive one, and it can be difficult to stand out from the competition. However, there is one thing that sets us apart: putting quality above quantity.
When you focus on quality, you are not just building a product or service that is well-made; you are also building a reputation for your company.
There are a number of things we do to put quality above quantity in our flooring business. Here are a few:
• Use high-quality materials. It’s very important to us to use high-quality materials in all aspects of our business. This ensures that our projects are durable and long-lasting.
• Not a revolving door for sub-par Installer’s or refinishers. We have had zero turnover, I still work with the same crews we have from the beginning.
• We take our time. We never rush through your projects. We take the time to do the job right, even if it means it takes a little longer. This will help to ensure that our projects are completed to a high standard.
. We don’t accept every job that contacts us. Not that we don’t need the work but we will not install inferior products or complete against other competitors.
• We Inspect our work carefully. Once your project is completed, to make sure that they meet your and our high standards of quality. If we find any problems, we fix them immediately.
Overall, putting quality above quantity is a decision I made a long time ago for my business. It is the best way to set myself apart from our competition and the reason we have had a successful business.

We still do the occasional floor for customers, but our main focus will be on our Dump Truck contract business. PHFG LLC is a locally owned and operated Dump Truck contract, company, dedicated to providing efficient and dependable hauling services.

Anytime you’re installing a solid product wider than a 4 inch you must glue and nail the floor for a proper install.

We are ready to install a 7 inch by three-quarter inch white oak flooring that we dropped off last week for acclamation. Once we remove the carpet we repair any subfloor squeaks check the moisture level of all areas and start the installation. from the start

First coat of polyurethane applied on our Marietta job. Yes I know that it looks better than most flooring companies finial product but that’s more proof why we are still one of the most sault after flooring companies in Atlanta even after 38 years and the last 4 years in semi-retirement. Very grateful for the work. Judging by the calls I have received the last couple of months we may take on a few more projects.

Just finished estimating a beautiful House In Ellijay. It was built in the 70s. I’m ready for some upgrades, but probably some of the most beautiful property I have seen. Thanks for the referral Brad King
