One of my absolute favorite weddings…. There’s something about color saturation that thrills me, it’s so immersive. The energy of color, the life force of green! Shashani could see it- usually im the one that ‘sees it’, this time I had no idea!! The impact is profound, what a gorgeous, unique moment brought to you by nature, vision, craftsmanship… no filters or ai! (Well maybe a little ‘vignette’ ) stay green! More of Shashani’s wedding on the website!

When you have killer style, work for John Fluevog Shoes and have an heirloom family gown from the 1880’s that’s in tatters…. Unwearable and unrestoreable is a challenge that always piques my interest. Jasper’s mom and grandmother(in the 40’s) wore this gown as well as other family members- but now it was just too far gone. Shattered by time and exposure the silk was just falling apart and turning into dust in my hands. The under train was incredible w soooo many rows of lace. Probably machine made made lace, a new luxury available around this time period, needed some love. Removing all of the shredded infra structure and resetting the rows by hand w a spray bottle of distilled water. The exterior needed love- removal of sleeves and ruched rotted chiffon mousseline revealed a sturdy silk faille with hand forged hooks and eyes and real whale bone stays. I reused the ribbons that were control tapes for the skirt volume for shoulder swags and just made fun panniers on the sides. the scrap chiffon that was still a little intact became the new collar on a lower neckline. This is the fun stuff, giving this dress a last waltz for patni and Jasper! Yajna Patni Stevens.

I wish I had more photos of this corset, it’s the perfect shape for that snatched waist, it has gussets that allow for the perfect amount of cleavage- the smaller the gussets the flatter the front. This pushes the bust up. bigger gussets create the cradle for the bo***es to sit lower. This style also has hip gussets in front and back which gives that lush curvy silhouette- this style is so great for that snatched waist. I didn’t use the term “tiny”. It’s all about the lines, even if you have a 40” waist you still have that gorgeous vavoom moment! Custom corsetry is my favorite- I love the physics, I love seeing that WOW moment when the body is transformed. And then I love releasing the laces!!! Woohoo can you imagine wearing these all@day every day? How long could *you*wear one?? I used to love it, now I’m like…” I love that for you”😂

Thank you Daily Record for including me in this list of best women owned businesses!

“Sixteen years of couture craftsmanship and a philosophy built around the individual client define Jill Andrews Gowns, a women-owned custom bridal atelier in Baltimore. From its founding, the studio has pushed back against the mass-production model that dominates the modern bridal industry, choosing instead to design entirely around each bride — prioritizing movement, comfort and body inclusivity over rigid, standardized silhouettes.
That client-centered approach extends to the culture of the studio itself, which was intentionally built as an open, transparent space. Custom dressmaking and heirloom restoration, work that involves carefully disassembling and reimagining vintage family gowns for modern brides, requires months of intimate collaboration. The studio has become a multigenerational gathering place where brides, mothers and grandmothers feel heard and celebrated throughout the process.
The craft at Jill Andrews Gowns traces its roots to a personal lineage. A grandmother and great-aunt, both masterful seamstresses, passed their skills to the studio’s founder and gifted her the Singer Featherweight sewing machine she used to create her earliest gowns. Running an independent, women-led business keeps that handcrafted tradition alive.
The studio’s resilience was tested when a three-alarm fire tore through its historic Hampden location, destroying imported silks, vintage lace, French silk flowers, 16 years of custom patterns and specialized equipment. The recovery effort drew an outpouring of support from fellow female entrepreneurs, local vendors and former brides, a community response that allowed the studio to rebuild and continue.”
