Elizabeth and I had this fitting almost a year ago. I went back to find the before pics of the process and was reminded that this series was November 10th! We shot these photos 4 hours before the fire! Another lucky gown🦋🦋🦋. It’s almost a ‘delight’ finding the new personality in so. much. dress! Creating a puff sleeve detachable bolero, keeping the high collar in the back preserved the fun “chandelier” (as my MIL would call it) bead drip down the back. Scaling down the beaded bodice to Elizabeth’s dancer frame called for some creative construction techniques…think cut and paste but hand sewn. We loved the peek-a-boo lace detail on that legendary train! Elizabeth Chaillé

Throwback to this fabulous shoot with Leah B.H. - L Hewitt Photography in Paris! Leah rolled in “I’m going to shoot in Paris, do you have anything you want me to shoot?” This is one of those opportunities where I’m like ‘oh hell yas’ I’m on it! I’ll make you a gown to shoot in a fountain! Being in such close proximity to one of the most sought after wedding photographers is beyond privilege. I’m grateful for the friendship we’ve developed over the years and for a shared vision of beauty and art!

Out of all of the crazy reconstructions that I’ve done Jess’s was probably the most dramatic in scale but was actually kinda simple. Like so many vintage pieces -this was her grandmother’s wedding dress-tiny tiny tiny. I opened the whole dress(cotton lace sheath with a silk bertha collar, from the 60’s) washed each piece individually, and air dried to brighten everything up. As with most reconstruction, inserts, godets and added panels are the trick to get the fit. I always find it’s better to go with complimentary lace than try to match original. I have scraps of lace from my 30 PLUS years of doing this, so I’ve always got SOME perfect pieces! (Ironically this was one of those boxes that I actually saved after the fire, irreplaceable) reblocking the collar gave me just enough to maintain the original look, even tho it originally closed in the back, still a charming detail. Added pieces into the shoulders to extend armholes and to drop the whole dress down a bit. There was an extra 2” of hem that added the perfect amount of length with just a tiny bound edge. Jess surprised her mom with this thoughtful way of honoring her grandmother, you know there were tears!

Maxie wanted a gown to dance in. Do you want to dance like leaf in the cool fall air? Got it. Silk satin face chiffon, almost 20 yards? Yeah. If you look closely at the dressing photo you can see the silk taffeta corset inside. This gown is just silk and some steel. All natural fibers, that’s what I do.
