There is something very calming about a morning walk in the garden. Here are some shots from this week.

Ball and burlap season starts the way it always has: by hand. Our crews dig each tree from the western fields once the rains return in October or November, after a long dry summer. From there, root balls are wrapped and moved to our sawdust beds to rest before heading to your local garden center.

Weeping Canadian Hemlock

Tsuga canadensis ‘Pendula’ is perhaps the most widely known and used form of Canadian Hemlock—especially when it is staked and trained to develop height and character. Pendulous branches form a thick exterior “shell” of foliage that covers the plant’s interior structural scaffold. Very useful and beautiful throughout the garden from sprawling ground covers or unique sculptural qualities to providing shade and softness to the garden gazebo.

Fukuzumi Japanese White Pine

The naturally variable, windswept character of the choice, slow-growing Pinus parviflora ‘Fukuzumi’ makes it a highly desirable addition to the landscape. It develops multiple leaders that extend at 45° angles, with short, blue-green, twisted needles. The wide-spreading plant takes on an irregular, wide form, or it can be staked up for tree-like character.

There is lots of activity on the dock this morning! The plants are getting pulled and its starting to look more full down there! Keep an eye out at your local garden center for fall deliveries.
