Mel's Small Engine Mel's Small Engine is a small town shop, known for great service in repairs, sales, rentals and trades. Stay tuned for further updates!

Mel’s Small Engine started in 2000 as a one man, service only shop for lawn and garden equipment and air-cooled engines. Since then the business has added an addition of four employees, is selling several lines of lawn and garden equipment, four different engine brands and is noted for skidloader repair and used equipment sales. The business is growing and we are now in the process of another expansion with more innovative ideas for your lawn and outdoor areas. We are located in northeast Nebraska. Bancroft is a small town of four hundred people and we service customers in a radius of forty to fifty miles and even further away. It is these customers that have made our business a success. Our quality of equipment, our quality of service and our commitment to our customer’s satisfaction is what makes us the place to go.

When the job demands more than just mowing… step up to the 440 EFI MidMount.

Powered by a V-Twin 993cc Vanguard Big Block Engine, this machine is built to handle serious acreage without breaking a sweat. With 61" and 72" deck options, you get the flexibility to match your operation—while the G3 Hydrostatic transmission delivers smooth, reliable performance every pass.
And when it comes to productivity? This is where it separates itself.

A massive 12-gallon fuel capacity keeps you running longer, and with the ability to mow up to 7.2 acres per hour, downtime becomes a thing of the past.

Less stopping. More mowing. Real results.

👉 If you had this kind of productivity on your crew, what would you tackle first? Drop it in the comments.

To some, it’s just mowing.

To others, it’s early mornings, long days, and the pride of building something of their own. It’s how families are supported, how communities stay beautiful, how fields, parks, and neighborhoods come to life.

It’s not just cutting grass—it’s showing up, day after day, and doing the work that matters.

That’s what more than mowing is all about.
If this is your livelihood, your passion, your craft—we see you.

What does mowing mean to you?

Success doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

It’s built on early mornings, long days… and the people who believe in you along the way.

For Chris Shipp, his small town isn’t just where he works—it’s the reason he’s been able to grow. The neighbors who gave him a shot. The community that kept calling him back. The support that turned a mower into a business.
That’s what it’s all about.
Not just cutting grass—
but building something that matters where you live.

We’re proud to be a small part of Chris’s story.

What role has your community played in your journey?👇
