Hey friends, just wanted to jump in and say thank you to the few of you who accepted my invite to this page. I hope to see more of you.
This is my FB to the reselling business I am trying to get up and running. I'm not living under the delusion that I am somehow going to get rich reselling stuff. But I do want to lay out some of the reasons I would like your support.
One of the reasons I am getting this going is that I have to be able to continue to provide for myself once I am not longer working. I'm probably 15 or 20 years away from retirement, yes I have a 401K and Roth that I actively manage, and whatever will come in from social security, if that even still exists in a decade or two. But I believe that trying to get something going now on a small scale that I can fairly easily manage give me plenty of time to grow it into something that will help sustain me financially.
Which brings me to another reason I have chosen to become a reseller.... Sustainability. We so much live in a throw away world. It's how the big retail corporations make their money. They sell sh*tty products, that don't last. They sell the idea that you always have to have the newest thing, and you don't.
I was listening to a podcast recently in which this girl went to visit her friend and discovered that their homes were decorated with all the same furniture, and very similar decor, easily accessible to your local big box store. And she realized that her home had no charm or personality, so she started thrifting to find unique items to differentiate her home.
There is enough "stuff" in the world already, and every item that is saved by being claimed and resold helps save the world in a small way.
I personally love recycled, and resold products. I will look at the thrift store for something before I walk into any big box store, for several reasons. But the biggest reason is financial. 90% of my clothes are thrifted. I can walk into a thrift store and buy a brand new blouse, with tags on it for maybe $5.00. The tag might say $70.00. The way I look at that is I saved $65.00 buying a blouse at a thrift store. I saved it from the trash, which contributed to my own effort to save the world in some small way, and I am talking about it now to encourage others to do the same.
My cabinets are filled with old dishes, not sets. Every coffee mug is different, glasses and plates and bowls, all different. I guess part of that is just my quirkiness. Part of that is that I love every single thing in my cabinets.... when I have people over, and they grab a coffee cup there will be no confusion about who that cup belongs to because they will have chosen it specifically. As a society, I think we are being trained to believe that everything has to match to be cohesive. It doesn't.
Anyway, I won't continue to bore you with my ranty monologue, I'm really just here seeking your support. You don't have to support me by making a purchase, although that would be awesome. You can support me by clicking on my store, spending a few minutes looking around. Linking product pages to people you think might be interested in something I am offering....This will help my page ranking on search engines.
It has been kind of fun learning about the ins and outs of putting together a web store. But if I am not ranked in search engines, people can search something on my site word for word and it won't come up. So please help me get ranked by clicking and looking around.
Peculiar, strange, and weird gifts, trinkets, treasures, oddities and vintage.
