Please join us in wishing our shop dog Copper a very happy gotcha day. Two years ago this pup left shelter life for life in a bookshop. He works so hard greeting customers, opening boxes, making bank runs and attending book clubs. We know he is everyone’s favorite employee and we are ok with that.

Why are we doing a membership?

While large corporations are able to sell books at a discount prices and absorb those losses, indie bookstores such as us rely on community investment to remain open. We are staffed by actual human beings (and one fuzzy dog) who know you and your reading tastes. But any small business owner will let you know it's tough out there.

Because even with all of our great events and book clubs, even with our awesome book selection, even with our delicious beverages....there are still slow times and rising costs that threaten the future of spaces like Booktenders. Memberships will help us get through those tough times.

Mandee and I have always envisioned creating a shop that would serve as a true Third Space. And we love the community and 'horrifically woke' vibes that we have created. By becoming a member, you will be directly contributing to the sustainability of our vision.

And we will thank you with perks! Each year we will have a local artist (never AI) design a print for a tote (available at the Friends with Benefits level +), t-shirt (Family level) or hoodie (Comrade level). We love our 2026 "Meet Me at Booktenders" design by Kelsey Wood

We are partnering with The Haute Wick Social ® to bring you a fun day of crafting. Come to the shop and make your very own bespoke bookish candle that you can burn all winter long!

Ashley from Haute Wick will be on hand to help you pick out scents and pour your own candle. Candles will need 2 hours to cool so you can stroll around the shop or go visit our neighbors on the block while you wait. Candles can also be picked up at a later time. But Booktenders will be providing some light refreshments.

Sessions begin at 11:30 and 2:30 on October 3rd and each session is limited to 12 people. So grab your friends...or sign up solo and make new friends! Tickets can be purchased at the link below.

Help! We are swimming in advance reader copies. How can you help? This weekend…buy a book from our shelves and then help yourself to one or two free ARCs from this table.

Also if you know of a non-profit or organization that could use some new books (not kids books—-we already have a couple places that we send those) message us and we can put together a box for you.

Hi friends! Here we are on the last day of August, the last month of summer—-even though the forecast doesn’t agree. And we want to know. What was the best book you read this summer? Any big surprises?

My favorite book of the summer will be one that will land on my favorites of the year for sure. It’s Kiss Slay Replay by Rachel Harrison and it comes out tomorrow! I’m so excited for y’all to hear more about it in the new release video.

My biggest surprise was The Savage, Noble Death of Babs Dionne by Ron Currie. I say it’s a surprise because I didn’t read the advanced copy that got sent to us. Wasn’t interested. A hardback copy has sitting on the shelf at the bookshop for over a year. Never called to me. And then I heard it discussed on a podcast, downloaded the audio and couldn’t stop listening. I immediately downloaded the second book in the series (from Libro.fm Audiobooks of course). Five stars.

Copper didn’t read any books this summer. But he did get a lot of pool time.
