⛈️🎶 This is Winfield.
Saturday night, lightning brought all four campground stages to a stop for about an hour as musicians, crews and thousands of Festival-goers moved under shelter around the Fairgrounds.
But the music didn’t stop.
Performers whose sets had been interrupted — and musicians waiting to go on next — found space among the crowd, pulled out their instruments and started playing. Before long, impromptu acoustic jam sessions were happening under the shelter areas while everyone waited for the storm to pass.
When it was safe to do so, the stages came back to life. Sets had to be shortened, and renewed lightning later cut some of the final performances short, but every group scheduled Saturday evening made it to the stage.
Kansas weather gave us a little trouble. Winfield answered with music. ❤️

Hosting last year’s NewSong Showcase at the Walnut Valley Festival with last year’s Master Songsmith Emily Johnson Erday. I’ll be back at it with a whole new crop of songs from some outstanding songwriters this Thursday and Saturday, plus the Night Drivers will perform Thursday thru Saturday, including special collaborations with Becky Buller and John McCutcheon. Tomorrow, at Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Music Crawl downtown, we will be co-sponsoring Strings of Green with our neighbors Harvest Christian Church. Look for the band to be playing on the sidewalk in front of the church. Strings of Green is an AMAZING family band, led by Brandon Green, two time National Bluegrass Banjo Champion Brandon Green. They play a mix of old time, bluegrass and gospel. You do NOT want to miss them. Starts at 6pm.
