I need to tell somebody what I just witnessed on this flight because WHAT THE F**K.
I got on the plane and thought the couple next to me was on their honeymoon. They were all over each other. Holding hands. Touching. Very much giving “madly in love.”
Then I realized they were breaking up.
Then I learned they had known each other for THREE DAYS.
THREE. DAYS.
She doesn’t know his last name.
Apparently Day 1, he was drunk and very into her. She said he was present, made her feel seen, and she felt an immediate love connection. They slept together. They went fishing. They went to dinner and drank. She went to his work. Somewhere along the way, she said she got “knocked out of left field,” and by this morning she knew he was done.
So naturally they spent the flight conducting a full relationship autopsy.
She cried. Called him “babe” approximately 700 times. Told him she loved him. Said she wasn’t 100% ready to let him go. Asked what changed. Apologized for making HIM feel like an as***le. Said she was hurt but not mad.
He told her it was nothing she did. They weren’t the right fit. He made a mistake getting involved with her. He was no good for her. She “couldn’t handle” him. At one point we got a fraternity reunion story that somehow supported his argument that he likes hot women, plus discussion about wanting someone roughly 20 years younger.
I briefly wondered if there was another woman.
There may not even have been enough TIME for another woman.
She finally said she understood. He couldn’t be convinced. She was done. She was just trying to understand.
She said once they got off the plane, she wasn’t going to talk to him anymore.
The plane landed.
She immediately hung all over him.
Then she offered to DRIVE HIM HOME.
He tried to get out of the ride.
Then HE KISSED HER.
Then she said, “Let’s listen to fun songs and I’ll take you home.”
Then she told him to stop talking.
Then they discussed her sunburn.
Then they hugged and kissed AGAIN.
Then she said, “Can you blame me for trying?”
Then she told him she was going to try to make him laugh forever.
Again: SHE DOES NOT KNOW HIS LAST NAME.
As we were getting off the plane, he asked if I wanted to go first.
Sir, thank you. I have been through enough.
And then I turned around and saw them walking down the jet bridge like this.
HOLDING HANDS.
She’s driving him home.
I fear I did not witness a breakup.
I witnessed intermission.
