Recently, we had the Dolly Diamonds come to the bookshop for story time, and after yesterday’s news of our beloved Dolly Parton’s passing, I had to re-share about their special visit again .
Who are the Dolly Diamonds and what is their mission, you ask?!?!
The Dolly Diamonds are a local group that “champions causes closest to Dolly’s heart with a special focus on children’s literacy and community involvement in the Capital Area. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, the Dolly Diamonds seek to support literacy and provide FREE books to every child from birth to age five in the Capital Area.”
These AMAZING ladies came to our story time with ALL their sparkle & shine and read A Coat of Many Colors, written by the Queen herself, Dolly Parton . Afterwards each child was given their own FREE book, and they each got the chance to partner up to “buddy read” with one of the Dollies, or a loved one.
Helping raise readers is at the heart of what we do at story time, and I’m not gonna lie, my heart kinda burst looking around and seeing so many kids, with their loved ones, and of course…the Dollie’s, all cozied up with a book.
The news of Dolly’s passing has left me heartbroken to lose such a shining light that meant so much to so many. But Im also reminding myself that when I’m most sad, I should look for the “helpers”….or in this case….The Dollies.
Dolly Diamonds Thank you for all you do to continue to spread Dollie’s love of reading and books with our community. Dolly may be gone, but boy does she leave her spirit and legacy behind and very much alive in you.
To get more info on the Dolly Diamonds and how to get FREE books for the little readers in your life, be sure to give them a follow.
Rest in Peace Dolly 💕✨
