May is ALS Awareness Month 💙
In 2013, my mom was diagnosed with ALS. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is typically 2 to 5 years — she passed away on 9/19/2014. Watching someone you love slowly lose everything — their strength, their voice, their independence — changes you forever.
Our relationship had its ups and downs, but she was an incredible mom. Her spirit was something else — always happy, always smiling, even when life gave her every reason not to. I used to wonder how someone could radiate that much light. But that was just her.
I’ll never forget the call from the UAMS emergency room — it’s something forever embedded in my soul.
So this May, I wear blue for her. For her smile. For her strength. For her fight. For the mom I miss every single day. 💙
