The taping community has lost another legend with the passing of Joani Walker at the age of 70.

ReddisaurusRex (at Reddit) describes her contributions:

"There were recordings being made by different folks for different purposes in the 80's and 90's. The PCM's were the "vault" recordings, but other recordings were made for members of the crew, family, and the various hangers-on.

"Joani Walker was a taper in the late 70's and early 80's (23 Nov 1978; 16 Dec 1978; 17 Dec 1978 are among three of her great recordings) who befriended Dan Healy. She eventually became the overseer of taping duties at the board, she sat with a table full of recorders and made tapes for crew and family, primarily cassettes. Her SBD cassette recordings have circulated for years in tape form, and now digital. She has shared many recordings with Charlie Miller who has transferred, mastered, and circulated many fine recordings that Joani made over the years.

"Healy's matrix recordings were done on PCM gear (so he could get the timing right), and have that hall ambience combined with the SBD clarity."

It has been a while since I posted last. A fun and busy summer with my band and building was had. This is an old Epiphone Zephyr that I restored/improved to use for some Sinatra tunes we played. New electronics all around, pots, pickup, wiring. A Surf Green lacquer to the face to set it apart from the sunburst finish it had on the maple top. Great for all the places I dragged her around, sounded good, no worries. Play it!

A Gibson thing.....I see this with mahogany necks where the tuner screws get stripped out. This one had 10 out of 12 screws stripped. Came in to reset and clean up and the screws were literally coming out. Scraped and smoothed the fret board before a level and re-crown. No sense smoothing and polishing frets without reducing the drag between the spring wood and the summer wood. Smooth as glass now.
I used my specially turned wood tuner screw hole dowels, created to exacting tolerances(otherwise known as toothpicks) on the head stock. If you are doing a relic, you could soak them in a Martini with an olive before installation, you know, for the vibe....
