Bear Creek Gifts Unique artwork and products crafted by individuals living at the Beatrice State Developmental Center. where they are paid an hourly wage for their work.

Bear Creek Gifts and Studio took its name from the creek that runs along the east side of the Beatrice State Developmental Center. We opened our doors in May of 2012 under the helm of Pat Sookram who was hired to facilitate the Art Studio and James Bush was hired to run the business. Individuals living at BSDC have been encouraged to explore what the Studio has to offer. Pat had the task of moving

the view of the art craft from being an “activity,” to one where individuals can hone their artistic skills and turn out a quality, marketable product. Some individuals work on their own projects, which then be sold in the Gift Shop, while others may take part in working on steps of projects (i.e. – priming wood for painting, cutting out pictures for decoupage projects, etc.) Our product line includes:
Individuals’ artwork
Candles/room fresheners
Custom doormats
Nebraska-themed products
Slumped wine bottles
Special occasion balloons
Holiday-themed products
We have committed ourselves to looking for new products and techniques to expand our line of merchandise.
