Good morning from Redbay! 🛶

Recently I moved into an old cabin on Village Creek with an outdoor kitchen, an outdoor shower and a whole lot that needs work.

I’ve been elbow-deep in a toilet tank, rebuilding things, painting walls and floors, hauling things in and out and living creek life.

Years ago I read Peter Mayle’s A Year in Provence, his account of making a life in an old house in a new place. This ain't Provence, but I'll give Redbay a year and see where it takes me... A Year in Provence-ish.

I’m about a month behind, so a few earlier days at Redbay will show up here as I catch up. 🛶

No power after the storm, you say? Try riding out the swamp apocalypse drought furnace while solo packing a U-Haul that develops transmission issues before your destination and then baking in the river bottom storage unit oven for 4 hours while things get sorted out. Here is a video of what I loaded & unloaded on trip 1.

I'll say this: U-Haul is doing everything in their power to make things right. They gave us a truck that is 35' long after the 15 footer. 👀🙏 ... from the most utilitarian liquor store in Texas. Candy, ci**rs, worms, lotto, beer, "ic" and U-Hauls.

Thank God I'm used to the heat. And I solo packed this first round, because I didn't want any help, because emotions. Day two is happening now! 😁

Port Neches Art Walk, November 2025

One of my favorite mural experiences - two spaces on the side of Avenue Axe painted for the 11th annual Art Walk. For this one, I rounded up every beer and liquor animal I could think of and put them around a pool table together: the Jägermeister stag, Bacardi bat, Grey Goose, Wild Turkey, the Anheuser-Busch eagle and Clydesdale, Spuds MacKenzie, and the Schlitz Malt Liquor bull - all breaking out of a giant Polaroid photograph.

Next door, an oversized dartboard covered an old blacked-out window and gave me a less complicated second wall.

Such a fun project, such a great little corner of Port Neches and still one of my favorite public-art experiences.
