🔥Hello dear friends and customers!
🔥I would like to write a letter to you all so that we can work better together and help each other grow and save money.
🔥First, let us tell you about our firewood business history. We started heating our home with wood 15 years ago and really enjoyed wood heat and processing wood. Eventually we had too much wood and decided to start selling some. Then some winter storms came, and we realized we could be selling a lot more wood and could invest money in better equipment to make this difficult work easier. Today, we have turned a hobby into a part-time business for our family. We established good connections with local tree services and loggers and helped them recycle this precious resource, that often ended up in the landfill or grounded up for compost or mulch.
🔥The wood that we receive is mostly fir, with some hardwood. Most of the better-quality hardwoods we must purchase from the loggers (hard or sugar maple, oak, and cherry). Softwood is very abundant here, especially fir, although they could be large logs and require heavy equipment to move and process.
🔥We process our firewood into IBC totes. This works great for quickly drying wood and it stays cleaner but tends to take much more space to store, and a lot of expensive large tarps to cover it from the rain. Windstorms often blow off any loosely secured tarps, rip them up, etc., and all this extra work adds to cost of goods. And right now, we are fully in a mud season, with a bomb cyclone and four inches of rain making it difficult to even get to the wood that is stored in the field.
🔥Firewood as a product is cheap, has a narrow profit margin, and is very bulky. Therefore, building something permanent to store all the wood, especially where we are near the city, is prohibitively expensive. The only way for us to continue serving everyone who requests wood from us is to sell more wood in the summer and in the dry season.
🔥Next year, we are switching to seasonal pricing:
🔥First, we will offer about 25-33% savings to the customers who buy full loads of fresh-split wood in the spring. (Logs could be partially seasoned already, so the wood will finish seasoning at your place. We will bring a full 1 1/3 cord trailer or similar sized truckload for the regular price of one cord. This will be offered in spring through July 1st, to give you plenty of time to guarantee seasoning. Fir and most tree service sourced wood are qualified for this deal (but not premium logs we must buy). By selling early we could also plan better on how much premium logs we must buy to sell for next year, so it is important to let us know that you are planning to buy such product. Hardwood and especially oak is a special case, we can certainly sell the green oak at a discount, but you must season it for an additional year to get the full benefit oak offers when properly seasoned.
🔥Our regular price season will run July 1-November 1st. We do not anticipate raising prices from this year unless we get a sudden increase in fuel.
🔥Our rain and mud season will run Nov 2nd-March 31. Our cord pickup and delivery prices will increase by about 10% to help offset additional labor and material costs of covering the wood to keep it dry, additional time to prepare for pickup or delivery. For example, our dry & seasoned cord of fir regular price is $360, it will be up to $400 in the winter season.
🔥Our stand prices are expected to stay the same, since we accounted for the extra costs when we priced the wood, and we want to help those who just do not have any place to store wood.
🔥If you enjoy burning fires and heating with firewood, please prepare yourself to store and season it. You have so many options, from finding some free pallets to building nice wood racks, etc. We can also sell you some IBC totes that we can help cut / modify, they make it super easy to store wood. There is plenty of wood out there to be had; however you must do a little bit of work to prepare, and you will be saving money and having better quality wood in the long run.
🙏Thank you for all of those that purchased firewood from us, especially in summer months and during peak season of September and October. We will be here for the firewood stand customers, but we hope to have fewer calls at this time asking for a full cord of dry hardwood delivered.
