So I am slowly fixing up this old Japanese guitar, which I got as a 'husk' missing the hardware and electronics. This is getting the pickups from a couple posts ago that had the backwards magnet.
I need to make a few things in order to get it all back together. The hole here is where the switches go to turn the pickups on and off. If you look at the second pic, you can see a ghost line where the old plate went. I carefully made a template out of card stock (package strings came in for the teardrop violin), and will use this to cut it out from black acrylic. Bonus points for saving this sign from the garbage at my last job 😁

I made this teardrop violin like 17 or 18 years ago, and just left it raw wood. I finally put some hand rubbed shellac on it last week, and I have no idea why I waited so long!! The shellac really brings out the colors and shimmer in the mahogany.

100% scratch built except for the tuning machines. And everything was scraps except for the rosewood. Chambered single piece mahogany body, western red cedar top, maple neck and bridge (literally from my in-laws firewood pile), and the fingerboard, tailpiece, nut, saddle, and endpin were all hand cut and carved from a large block of Indian rosewood.

I've made several instruments over the years that I am pretty proud of, but this one always gets the most reaction from people. I originally built this as a prototype, planned to make more and sell them, but life got in the way. I have had a couple offers to buy this, but....

So you know those necks I got the other day? I got this Tele style body from my friends at Alloy Guitars last night, and this neck firs perfectly! Nice snug fit, lines right up with the bridge spot, and is the right scale length. What do you think of this body and headstock combo?
