Here's an idea!!
Turn a pair of salvaged doors into a one-of-a-kind garden arbor that gives an ordinary path the feeling of entering a hidden garden.
Use Solid Doors
Older solid-wood doors work especially well because they are heavy enough to feel substantial and often have details that add character. Avoid doors with significant rot, loose joints, or badly weakened bottoms.
If the doors originally contained glass, remove it unless it is securely installed safety glass. Open window spaces are safer outdoors and can eventually be softened with climbing plants.
Check Old Paint
The worn finish is part of the appeal, but old painted doors may contain lead. Test questionable paint before sanding, scraping, drilling, or cutting it.
If you want to preserve the aged appearance, clean the doors gently and seal the sound existing finish with an appropriate clear exterior coating rather than aggressively sanding it away.
Build the Structure
The doors should be decorative sides of the arbor, not the primary structural support. Set sturdy posts securely in the ground beside or behind each door and fasten the doors to them.
Connect the posts overhead with exterior-rated lumber, then add several short crosspieces across the top to create the pergola effect.
Use corrosion-resistant exterior screws, bolts, and brackets. The completed arbor must be able to withstand wind as well as the future weight of climbing plants.
Keep the Opening Comfortable
Leave enough space between the doors for people, wheelbarrows, and garden equipment to pass comfortably. Around 4 feet of clear width works well for a garden entrance.
Keep the threshold completely open rather than adding a board across the bottom that could become a tripping hazard.
Add a Garden Path
Continue a stone, brick, or gravel path directly through the arbor so it naturally draws people into the garden.

Plant Around the Arbor
Surround the structure with layered flowers instead of leaving it standing alone. Use taller perennials toward the back, medium flowering plants around the doors, and lower plants beside the path.
Coneflowers, daisies, salvia, catmint, phlox, roses, and similar cottage-garden plants can create a colorful setting when suited to the site's light and climate.
Add Climbers Carefully
Climbing roses, clematis, honeysuckle, or other vines can eventually grow across the top. Install wires or discreet supports so the vines are carried by the structural frame rather than pulling directly on the old doors.
Keep growth pruned away from hinges, deteriorating wood, and walking space.
What might have been discarded during a renovation can become a permanent garden feature. The old doors supply the character, while a properly built frame, stone path, climbing plants, and surrounding flowers turn them into an entrance that feels as though it has been part of the garden for decades.
