Mirage Sound Company will be there! Will you?

On June 13th in West Virginia, the Grafton Monster Festival kicks off in the Grafton Downtown Commercial Historic District with a full day of cryptid fun from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors can walk through downtown, browse craft and food vendors, shop for monster-themed merchandise, hear live music, and enjoy family-friendly activities tied to one of West Virginia’s strangest legends. The festival celebrates the Grafton Monster, a pale, bulky creature that TV reporter Robert Cockrell said he saw near the Tygart Valley River in 1964. His account described a seven-to-nine-foot figure with no clear head and a strange whistling sound, and the story has remained part of local folklore ever since. Expect costume contests, paranormal and cryptid guest speakers, meet-and-greets, and plenty of oddball small-town charm. A VIP Dinner is also planned for June 12th before the main festival day.

Today we remember Jakson Spires, the powerful drummer for the Southern rock band Blackfoot, who passed away on March 16, 2005.

Spires was one of the driving forces behind Blackfoot’s unmistakable sound. His thunderous drums and tight groove helped fuel many of the band’s most memorable songs during the late ’70s and early ’80s. When fans think of the hard-hitting energy of classics like “Train, Train” and “Highway Song,” they’re also hearing the heartbeat of Spires behind the kit, locking in with vocalist and guitarist Rickey Medlocke to create that unmistakable Southern rock punch.

Known for his powerful style and steady rhythm, Jakson Spires helped Blackfoot become one of the most respected bands in the Southern rock movement. His playing brought both muscle and feel to the band’s music, making their live shows especially electrifying.

Today we remember Jakson Spires and the rhythm he gave to rock fans everywhere. His drumming still echoes every time a Blackfoot record spins. 🥁
