Some of those dried flower heads are still doing important work.

Leaving plants like coneflowers, black-eyed Susans, and ornamental grasses standing a little longer can add winter interest to the garden and provide seeds for birds as the season changes.

Save Those Seeds

🌼 Before you clean up the garden, take a second look.

Some of those dried flower heads may be holding next year’s garden.

Seeds from plants like zinnias, marigolds, coneflowers, black-eyed Susans, sunflowers, and cosmos can often be collected once the seed heads are fully dry.

Let them dry completely, label what you save, and store them somewhere cool and dry until planting season returns.

A little seed saving now can mean a whole lot of color next year. 🌱
