A quick roadtrip to Chattanooga last Friday. Shipped large Blenko lipped shades to a favorite client in Nashville from there vs Cincinnati, which were safely delivered the next day.
Picked up two small holiday trees from Vickie at High Country Cottage that she has been babysitting for me since January. (Downsizing includes Christmas decor. Passing on my skinny tree to my sister in law).
An overdue visit to family and grandchildren, lots of laughs, great food, never a dull minute. A quick stop at Mustard Seed, always lots of temptations - picked up few smalls, and this clock face. Had looked at it on a prior visit. Decided it would fit in the kitchen. Love the colors and the old world feel. Works with the European tiles, don’t you think?

Sharing this beautiful late 18th century Georgian mourning silk and embroidery panel.

I made a trip to Riverside Centre Antique Mall to look at some offerings in Jennie Murphy’s booth UPRIVER•Art•Antiques•Design. She had several stunning pieces of early needlework, a rarity in this area and …. multiple pieces in one spot. All were fabulous, but I kept going back to this one in particular.
The colors, the classic elements of a mourning piece - the urn and the draped fabric or swag (symbols of respectful remembrance), the pheasant and the snake both representing shedding for an eternal and renewed life - are all classic elements of early decorative textiles.

After a walk about, some encouragement and affirmation from my dear friend Nan City Mouse Antiques (who also has a splendid selection of English antiques), this piece made its way home.

Thank you again, Jennie Jennie W. Murphy for sharing your wonderful things. I am honored and thrilled to have another piece from a collection you hold dear to your heart.

Now for a ladder and some rearranging.

🇺🇸 Remembering our 250 years of history on this special 4th of July.

• 🇺🇸 A treasured copy of ‘The Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America’. The first miniature printing of the Declaration of Independence. Engraved in italicized micro-script, the text is surrounded by a border of intertwined oak and laurel leaves with a portrait of George Washington at the head and 13 engravings of the state seals of the original colonies, facsimile signatures at the bottom.. Copper plate engraving, Boston: L. H. Bridgham, 1836.
• 🇺🇸 Historical blue depicting the Landing of Lafayette in 1777 in South Carolina before journeying to Philadelphia to serve alongside General Washington.
• 🇺🇸 A pewter rimmed plate made by Blakeslee Barnes of Philadelphia, 1812 -1817.
• 🇺🇸 Portrait in miniature, American, late 1700’s - note the long hair of the period, tied back.

Adding to the collection of stone fruit grapes. Always happy to find the smaller size.
A lovely marble book from Melinda Bennett paired with a scalloped chinoiserie papier-mâché tray and marble ball stand bought in Florence.
Not summer colors, but love the look.

Can’t believe May is only a week away.
Winter survivors - out for some Vitamin D like the rest of us.
Need to find something special for that small stamped conservatory pot made by Guy Wolff for the New York Botanical Garden. Maybe a variegated geranium?
A beautiful day here. Enjoy the warm weather.

Easter Wishes

Love to travel, but the best part is returning home, remembering and trying to recreate a special food we enjoyed.

Bari, Italy in the region of Puglia - In the historic old town on Strada delle Orecchiette, the local nonnas make the fresh orecchiette (little ears) on outdoor tables daily.

Charming town with 16th c statues, the Basilica of St. Nicholas and her Madonna with Bird.

Nothing like the pasta made there, but today’s Easter lunch was orecchiette with spicy sausage, mushrooms and spring peas and a frascati white from Lazio, known as the wine of Rome …. courtesy of my brother.
Good memories and Happy Easter!
