I went to Trader Joe's and almost started crying.
Not because the flowers weren't beautiful—they absolutely were. It was because I was standing there looking at bouquet after bouquet with prices that a small local flower farm simply can't compete with.
The reality is, locally grown flowers cost more for a reason.
When you buy flowers from a local flower farmer, you're helping support a family's dream—not a multi-billion-dollar corporation. You're helping pay for seeds, soil, water, tools, supplies, farmers market fees, and countless hours spent planting, weeding, harvesting, and arranging each bouquet by hand.
Every bouquet from a local farm represents months of work before you ever see the first bloom.
Grocery stores can purchase flowers by the truckload from massive commercial growers around the world. Small flower farms can't buy, grow, or sell at that scale—and we don't want to. We focus on freshness, unique varieties, and flowers that were often cut within a day or two of reaching your hands.
If your budget only allows for grocery store flowers, that's completely okay. Flowers should be enjoyed by everyone.
But if you're ever able to choose local, know that your purchase means so much more than buying a bouquet. You're investing in your community, supporting a small business, and helping keep local farms growing for years to come.
