Bookshop Benicia A locally owned independent bookstore since 1993. New and used. We even have fair trade organic chocolate!

Lots of books-new and used, cards,quality games and toys, magazines, jigsaw puzzles and other great gifts. We special order books at no extra cost and have a customer rewards program.

Not everyone can stay up until midnight to wait for a book, so we wanted to give the working gals/guys and busy parents a reasonably timed party to celebrate with other fans that need to be in bed before ten!

We'll have activities, freebies, and themed mocktails! This is a FREE Event with limited capacity. RSVP at the link in our Bio or on our website to secure your spot.

Those who pre-order books with us get a free goodie bag as well :)

If you don't need the party, no worries! We'll be open early (8:00AM) for those who want to pick up their book before work/after school drop offs.

Our 2nd official open mic event, Amber Daydream, is officially open for pre-registration for the Fall/Autumn season! Thank you to everyone who attended our 1st open mic event back during the Summer season (Midsummer Reverie!!)- and helping us continue our seasonal open-mic events :))

Amber Daydream takes place on Sunday, October 18th at 7:00PM- located at Bookshop Benicia here in Benicia, CA :)

The American Library Association documented 487 attempts to censor books at libraries, schools, and universities in 2025. The reasons most commonly cited for censorship were false claims of illegal obscenity for minors; inclusion of LGBTQIA+ representation; covering topics of race, racism, social justice, and diversity; and presenting political or religious views with which the challengers disagreed. Of the 4,235 unique titles that were challenged or banned in 2025, here are the top 11 most frequently targeted.
