We’ve been celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander heritage month in May with a special section of curated titles, but you’ll find these books/authors and many more from AANHPI authors on our shelves year-round.

“The historical contributions, journeys and injustices of our AANHPI human relatives here on Turtle Island (North America) have been too often neglected or obfuscated. That leads to othering, aggression, and erasure that should be extinct behaviours in our society. I want to learn about and celebrate my AANHPI friends and neighbors, and am so much richer for the opportunity to read their stories and expand my own world and understanding. At the bookstore, that means revisiting favorites and discovering titles and authors new to me across genres, and making sure as many of our customers and community members as possible are able to see themselves reflected on our shelves.”

We started Two Friends Books 8 years ago! We had just met were bummed that there wasn’t an independent bookstore in Bentonville, so we thought “let’s just do a pop up!” And when folks started asking when we were opening a brick and mortar shop, we shared a moment of surprise — and the seed was planted.

Neither of us came from bookselling or even retail! We are just readers who are delusional and heard-headed enough to say, “Why not us?” and stick with it.

This is a labor of love. It’s deeply rewarding and exceedingly challenging. But through it all, we still look at each other with surprise in our eyes that the first Memorial Day weekend popup has turned into the Two Friends Books of today, the place we wished and worked for.

Our amazing staff and customers over the years have made creating Two Friends a communal endeavor. We can’t wait to see where we go together in the next 8 years!
