“Portrait de Jacqueline de face”, 1961, was created during Picasso’s time with Jacqueline Rogue. The two met in 1954 after an introduction by Madam Ramie, who owned the pottery shop where Picasso had been creating much of his ceramic work. Though Picasso had only recently left Françoise Gilot, in 1953, they remained on friendly terms. He saw Françoise and their children frequently and, on occasion, still turned to her for advice regarding his work. Jacqueline, insecure in her role as Picasso’s latest mistress and desperate to consolidate her hold over him, was outraged at their continued association. She took every means available to limit Picasso’s access, not only to Françoise but to the rest of the outside world. In 1956, at her urging, they moved to a large villa outside Cannes, La Californie. Unsurprising to those who were familiar with Picasso’s romantic relationships, he was following his tradition of “shedding his old surroundings with his old relationship.” Jacqueline and Picasso married in 1961, in Vallauris, and remained together until Picasso’s death in 1973.

Galerie Michael Presents JOE TAVERAS
https://galeriemichael.com/product-category/joe-taveras/

Joe Taveras is a Boston-based roboticist, designer, and artist who has spent the majority of his career selling robots around the world. A creative from the outset, his art initially consisted of eclectic musical compositions. It wasn’t until the arrival of the pandemic (March 2020) that he migrated to a new medium: painting. Having had no formal training, he used his time in quarantine to engage in rapid experimentation with an array of styles and mediums in order to truthfully convey his vision. He consistently aims to push the boundaries of innovation with his art, exploring new techniques that reflect his inner and outer environment, questioning our collective future, social norms, and our interminable integration with technology.

His paintings are in private collections in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, the Middle East, Sweden, Spain, Norway, Ghana, Vietnam, China, Canada, and more.

“Every Sunday night I take myself out to dinner. For me this is a time where I can reflect on the previous week, plan the days ahead, and sketch new ideas if I feel compelled to do so. On this Sunday in mid-July, while I was dining and sketching away, the waiter took note of my energy and approached my table to ask me if I would like an espresso martini. Having never had this drink before I thought ‘sure why not!’ Before I knew it, the beautiful potion had me literally jumping off the walls in my apartment and I forced myself to go to the studio to transfer this feeling onto a canvas. I got to my studio at 9:30 pm and, for the next 12 hours, I proceeded to engulf this massive canvas with the energy that was vigorously escaping my core. I’ll never forget waking up on the floor the next morning, covered in purple paint, with ‘Utopia’ towering over me.”

Galerie Michael is pleased to introduce Alex Sastoque.
https://galeriemichael.com/product-category/alex-sastoque/

Maestro of fine arts, artist and world peace promoter, Alex Sastoque is originally from Colombia, South America, and graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. His main mentors were the late maestro Armando Villegas in Latin America, and the late Maestro Ernst Fuchs, in Europe. Sastoque’s closeness to maestros such as Fernando Botero and Edgar Negret have allowed him to closely study their works of art, techniques and concepts, nurturing Sastoque’s research and his artistic process.

Throughout his career, Sastoque has been linked to academies such as the Javeriana University, University of Los Andes, Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, and the National University of Colombia, with his research and thesis focused on Pre-Colombian and Latin American art. He was awarded with honors at the Javeriana University and is a part of the network of public libraries and universities of Colombia.

Sastoque has also developed studies on the theory of color, quantum physics, the laws of nature, and the law of relativity. He completed his master’s degree in classical painting, understanding the pictorial technique and the handling of the composition of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Sastoque has studied with precision the Old Masters such as Rembrandt, Albrecht Dürer, Caravaggio, Michelangelo, da Vinci, Raphael and Rubens, among others.

This research has led Sastoque to consolidate his artistic style called “Sastoquism”, in which numerous pixels, feathers shaped, are grouped into a whole, producing a game of color, textures, movement and phenomenal brightness.

In addition, thanks to his interest in the chemical composition of the paint, Sastoque found the perfect formula for the preparation of his own paintings, with which he manages to harmonically interconnect each stroke and color in the image.

Sastoque’s artwork manifests a great pictorial and sculptural language, in which the repetition of the element and the distortion of the forms supposes the consolidation of what he has called molecular and universal art, centered on the disintegration of forms. In his creative process, there is evidence of a balance between reason and the spontaneous act of experimentation with matter - a dynamic body action. His work brings quantum behavior closer to our daily life through art, something that Sastoque has defined as “quantum automatism”.

Alex Sastoque materializes his work in painting, sculpture, video art and installation, to preserve the legacy of Latin American culture and the great Maestros of art history.

REMBRANDT EXHIBITION
A Collection of Fine Etchings
https://cld.bz/rv2ATGe

Galerie Michael has built a worldwide reputation over its four decades in existence. Not least for our wonderfully-varied Rembrandt offerings. We work each time to provide our clients with the very best.

This year, once again, we have built a collection that spans Rembrandt's range in etchings--from nudes to Biblical works, from portraits to self-portraits and then encompassing his genre works representing everyday life from his hometown Leiden to his adopted Amsterdam.

Just as his works are varied, so too is the acquisition range--from entry-level to museum-quality. There is something here for everyone, and we invite you to explore Rembrandt--A Fine Collection of Etchings for yourself.

Four centuries ago, Rembrandt set the gold-medal standard in etchings. Others are still trying to reach that level.

We assure you that you will be as fascinated as we are.

NEW EXHIBITION - Barbizon & the Journey to Impressionism
https://cld.bz/rkKts6w

One of the most significant periods in Art History was the 19th century. The dramatic shift from academic art to the Impressionist movement was profound and it was that shift that gave rise to modern art. Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Matisse and Chagall could not have achieved their supremacy had the artists of the mid-19th century not taken their bold steps. The bridge to modernity was built in the small French village, Barbizon, but the road atop that bridge went to the entire world.

Each year, Galerie Michael has been proud to showcase the art that led to Impressionism, and this year, despite being 2020, is no different! We have assembled a truly amazing collection from which our clients can choose. Please take a few moments to surround yourself with the great art of a momentous age as we continue on our journey for the ages.

Galerie Michael - The Legacy Continues.

New Works Added!
https://cld.bz/zvFjVha

Two weeks ago, the Galerie Michael family sought ways to pay the highest respects to our recently-departed founder and friend, Michael Schwartz. Apparently, we found a way that resonated with our amazing clients around the world when we selected our Legacy of a Lifetime offerings. We chose works across the full spectrum of our collection, stretching from the 17th century to the present. From Rembrandt to the Barbizon School, and from Renoir to Picasso, Miró, Chagall, Dalí and Matisse. We even delved into our contemporary works. We wanted every one of our clients to find something to their liking, within their price-point—works of art ranging from entry-level to one-of-a-kind, museum-quality. Works dating from Rembrandt’s 17th century through to the present day—and everything in between.

Because the response was so positive, and because so many people asked for more items to be included, we went back to our inventory to find what you are seeking. We are certain that you will agree that we succeeded once again—which in turn allows you to succeed right along with us. Michael’s eternal legacy is in the collections he helped build, and now you can add to both your collection and his legacy.

Michael was larger than life. His legacy is as well. And now, our Legacy of a Lifetime grew to match the stature of his life and legacy.

We invite you to find a perfect match for your legacy—one that you can enjoy as much now as your children and their grandchildren, for centuries to come.

GALERIE MICHAEL - LEGACY OF A LIFETIME

Until the end, Michael Schwartz spent his life helping others fulfill their hopes and dreams in the acquisition of the world's finest art--stretching from the 17th century to the present. From Rembrandt to the Barbizon School, and from Renoir to Picasso, Miró, Chagall, Dalí and Matisse. Even into the contemporary works, including the now-iconic Mr. Brainwash. Michael adopted his clients' visions as his own, and worked as hard on entry-level collections as he did on world-class, museum-quality collections. His top client was the person he was speaking with at that moment in time. His devotion to everyone was boundless.

His eternal legacy is in the collections he helped build, each of which will move from generation to generation--forever.

Upon his recent passing, the Galerie Michael family sought ways to pay the highest respects to our founder and friend. The most fitting way to honor him is through the legacy of his art. This could not be limited to a single artist, nor a single genre, but must include our entire array of art and artists, in an event that involves everyone--just as Michael would have loved. We selected some pieces that have not seen the light of day for decades, such as Chagall masterpieces that have long been secreted away in Parisian gallery drawers, then extracted through Michael's dogged determination. We have Rembrandts that are hundreds of years old and works that have been created by living artists. We chose one-of-a-kind museum-quality masterpieces, along with entry-level works and everything in between.

We invite you to this tribute to a wonderful lifetime of achievement and fulfillment. With the fondest memories and utmost respect, we proudly present this full spectrum of all that Galerie Michael offers--a glimpse into the full brilliant rainbow representative of Michael's life--from beginning to end.

We are most honored to share this golden legacy with all.
