If my store wasn’t forced out of business, I would have closed my doors today. I have been fighting against tariffs since 2019 in an attempt to save Main St USA. I won’t stop helping my retail community just because I lost my storefront.

I believe in connection, kindness, and community.

I believe in uplifting and supporting.

I believe in good.

In Judaism, we believe in education, action, and humanity. We feed our pets before we feed ourselves. We give something even if we don’t have much. We strive to make the world better than we found it.

Please continue to shop small and local!

At 6am my front door alarm alerted and when I called BHPD they told me BHFD had to enter my store.

I dashed over to find firemen on the roof and wasn’t sure what was going on.

Turns out my neighbor’s restaurant caught fire which caused immense damage to my shop. It’s toast despite not burning.

I know I’ll be writing about this morning and of course will find the silver lining like not dealing with returns or worrying about my DHL package stuck in customs.

Today I’ve been overwhelmed with messages of love, support, offers of help to clean up, restock, and GoFundMe.

I feel like I did when my dad told me mom died. Dazed. Numb. All emotions. No emotions. Exhausted. Grateful.

I didn’t cry until I went into the back room and found the scarf I had custom made for my travel bestie in my back room. It’s ruined from shattered glass and smoke.

My life for over twenty years has been in service to help connect people with meaningful objects that communicate care and love.

I wasn’t upset about losing everything in my shop, just Annabelle’s present. To miss out on gifting her joy.

More later when I’m in a better head space.

Get • Shopping small means supporting small. You’re encouraging dreamers, artists, and entrepreneurs. One purchase connects you to the artist and to the recipient of your gift. You become a link in everyone’s joy.

When I buy for my shop, I look for businesses that I want to support. It’s not enough that they have cool product. They have to be cool people too.
On my retail journey, I’ve met quite a lot of fantastic people. Here’s a limited shout out to a few people who deserve recognition and support. They managed to save their business through these last few years because of their passion and commitment. Please take a moment to check them out.

To my fellow retailers:

please shop one of your favorite stores today. No one shop keeps a vendor in business. We are not competition. Let’s support one another so we and our vendors can thrive and make Shop Small Saturday a celebration of our love for retail!

I ache for my friends who are waiting to hear if their homes are still standing and for those who are now evacuating.

Safety is the number one priority today. I don’t want my staff commuting to work nor customers walking around in this heavy smoke filled air.

I apologize for any inconvenience the store closure is causing. I’m available to schedule an in-store pick up for any online emergency gift purchases.

Last night, City Council honored Tesoro Los Angeles / Best Gift Store Ever as a part of the Mayor’s 60 Second Shoutout!

Tesoro is a unique store that carries all-pre-wrapped gifts for babies, kids, and adults for grab-n-go convenience🧸.
