Plant now, thank yourself later!

Here's a little secret: August is actually one of the best times to plant perennials — better than waiting until spring! The soil is still warm, which means roots get to settle in and grow strong all fall, before the plant ever has to worry about putting out leaves and blooms. Come spring, you'll have an established plant ready to take off, instead of one that's just getting started.

And right now, we're making it easy to get a head start:

TIP TUESDAY! Mid-August in the garden — a few things to keep on your radar:

💧 Water deeply, not often. With the late-summer heat, give your plants a good soak a couple times a week rather than a light sprinkle daily — it encourages deeper, stronger roots.

✂️ Keep deadheading. Snipping spent blooms off your annuals and perennials now keeps them flowering right up until fall.

🍅 Watch your tomatoes & squash. Mid-August humidity can bring on powdery mildew and blight — check the undersides of leaves and remove any affected foliage early.

🥬 Start your fall crops! It's the perfect time to direct-sow lettuce, spinach, and kale for a fall harvest.

🌾 Ease up on fertilizer for trees & shrubs. Stop feeding woody plants now so new growth has time to harden off before frost.
