🏁Board Member Spotlight
Shawn Scaggs – Parade Chairman & Track Coordinator
Sometimes the people who make the biggest difference are the ones who never ask for the spotlight.
Shawn Scaggs became part of the Celebration on the Pond family after one of our longtime sponsors, Ben Gordon of Ben Gordon Trucking, introduced him to our Treasurer, Katie. That introduction earned Shawn a spot on the track volunteer crew for the 2019 Pulling Events, and we've been grateful ever since.
When 2021 rolled around (because let's be honest… did 2020 even happen?), Shawn jumped back in to help. This time, he brought an idea that would quickly become one of our signature events—the Semi Truck Parade of Lights. What started as a simple suggestion has grown into one of the most anticipated traditions of Celebration on the Pond, bringing hundreds of people together each year to light up the streets of Morley. Today, Shawn proudly serves as our Parade Chairman, helping organize and grow an event that has become a community favorite.
As Track Coordinator, Shawn is also one of the people who helps transform Celebration Acres into whatever the next event requires. Alongside many dedicated volunteers and board members, he's helped build monster truck tracks, rodeo arenas, demolition derby courses, and—his personal favorite—a pulling track. If it involves dirt, heavy equipment, or figuring out how to make an event happen, chances are Shawn has had a hand in it.
The past year has brought Shawn challenges that had nothing to do with dirt, trucks, horsepower… or Dana. His health journey has tested him in ways no one ever expects, but true to who he is, he's faced it with determination, grit, and a positive attitude. We're incredibly thankful to see him continuing to improve.
These days, some of Shawn's greatest joys come from spending time with his grandchildren, who proudly know him as Papa, tinkering on his semi truck, and making sure the Celebration on the Pond crew is always aware of the latest weather forecast—because if there's a storm cloud within 100 miles, Shawn has already sent us an update!
Shawn's dedication, work ethic, and willingness to volunteer have helped shape Celebration on the Pond into what it is today. His fingerprints are on nearly every event we host, and his impact reaches far beyond the track.
Behind every one of Dana's famous "Hear me out…" ideas is Shawn, probably wondering what he's just agreed to build next. Whether it's a new event, a different track layout, another improvement to the grounds, or an idea that seemed just a little crazy at first, he never says, "That's impossible." Instead, he figures out how to make it happen. His patience, support, and willingness to jump headfirst into whatever comes next have been just as important to Celebration on the Pond as his time behind the wheel of a tractor or on a piece of equipment.
Thank you, Shawn, for your countless hours of hard work, your vision, your friendship, and for believing in Celebration on the Pond—even when Dana's latest idea probably had you wondering, "Now what?" We appreciate everything you do, and we're proud to have you as a valued board member, Parade Chairman, Track Coordinator, and, most importantly, part of the Celebration on the Pond family.
