Dove hunting at Red Rock Farm
**If you are interested in hunting, we are now reserving spots. The current price is $50 a person/day with a maximum of 6 hunters. If you want to reserve the property for only yourself, it would be $300 for a private hunt.
This is our second year to open the property up for dove hunting.
The property is comprised of 10.5 acres (.5 acres has our home).
The property is covered in Mesquite, Huisache, and a variety of brush cover. We are setting up the property using the TPWD Dove Field Managment Guide and making sure we have adequate cover for bird populations.
We have a small shallow pond towards the rear of the property, dead trees, overhead lines for dove perching, and lots of brush cover. The front fields will be mowed right before the season begins, but the rest of the property has extensive brush cover.
Often the public hunting zone across the roadway sends the birds flying to our property and the safety of the pond at the back.
Over the past 20 years dove populations have ebbed and flowed. This year appears to be a good year due to the rain, and abundant vegetation cover we had earlier, which is now dying back for the fall. We are viewing abundant quail and dove.
Housekeeping rules:
Please Park only in the designated parking areas to help avoid getting stuck in the sand.
Please close the gate behind you once your party has arrived. (For safety sakes our livestock and dogs will be penned and not running loose). Please do not enter the closed off barn area or the house. The rest of the property is available for roaming.
Please make sure that each hunter has signed a waiver and they are turned into me prior to hunting. The green box hanging on the gate contains the waivers, or I am able to email ahead of time.
When making a reservation, please make sure your talk to the landowner to verify the date you desire is available to reserve. To reserve your date payment is required up front to hold the date for your hunting party. There are no refunds, but you are able to move your date to any available dates. We accept Venmo and CashApp.
WARNING!! Historically, this property has seen some large rattlesnakes. Early on we had eradicated them, and the property was kept groomed. When we opted to allow it go revert back to "wild" we have been experiencing a resurgence of a variety of snakes include two small rattle snakes and one large rattle snake this year. Please wear appropriate footwear/clothing and be aware of your surroundings.
Other animals often spotted on the property are the following:
h***y toads, badger, rabbits, quail, roadrunners, heron, ducks, dove, bob cats, deer, hogs, turkey and the occasional mountain lion.
While this is our homestead, it is mostly wild, brush country.
Please make sure to set up hunting blind locations along the South fence line facing into the fields, or under trees facing into the property. Position each hunter at a minimum 50 yards (150 feet) from each other.
Please keep track of each other and communicate movements to prevent injury.
Please DO NOT shoot across the roadway, or into neighboring properties. Neighbors will call the game warden. Aiming up and into the middle of the property and down the length away from the roadway will ensure a safer hunting experience for all. *Pay attention to the wind to avoid pellets drifting onto neighbor's property.
Retrieve birds as quick as possible, and do not cross fence lines onto neighbor's property. Trained hunting dogs are permissable.
Make sure you have your id, hunting license and you stay within daily limits. The game warden runs up and down the road and WILL often stop by and check.
Please pick up any empty shells.
Stools, blinds and decoys are permissible.
If booking multiple days, RVs are welcome for $25 a night.
If you would like meals provided, at an additional charge please contact me for arrangements.
There are currently no restrooms available on site but camping toilets are encouraged or practice "leave no trace" methods by digging a hole. Toilet tissue should be carried away or burned in the available fire pit.
In the event of injury, the closest hospital is in Pearsall and is roughly 15 minutes away.
