Our flea market story: About 15 years ago Josie started selling at flea markets on the weekends for a fun thing to do. She also sold in the basement of a consignment shop in endicott. She worked full time at dress barn in vestal, and at the time I was partner's in an HVAC business. We were both working alot! So needless to say we were very busy every day of the week! She asked me one day after the "showplace" flea market ended for the winter season "Paul can we start our own flea market"? I said we'll theres going to be alot of start up costs, 1st months rent, security deposit, utilities, insurance, permits, etc. Where are we going to get that money? A loan? She said I've been saving money over the years from selling at the flea markets! I didn't even know, sneaky Josie! So being in HVAC I knew alot of building owners. And found a small building on main St. in binghamton. It was about 5000 sq. Ft. The plan was to try it for one winter, well it lasted 2 years and went throughout the summer too. Until we got "kicked out" for a more permanent business. No big deal we thought it was fun and still had our jobs, but all the vendors kept asking "so where are we moving too"? We had no plan, we started looking at buildings. We called Mike Tomasulo from galesi reality and asked about the building in the Binghamton plaza. He said we already have a flea market and the owner of the plaza didn't want another. Then a couple months later k-mart closed! Guess who called and asked if we were still interested? You guessed it, galesi reality. 11+ years later we have finally closed, the city bought the property and has some grand scheme on how to make the area better. To be honest we have been wanting to close for years but didn't have the heart to tell our great vendors. We will miss you guys, we made so many amazing memories and friendships over the years! So we are taking a break this summer, going to do some traveling. This will be the 1st summer in 12 years that we will have weekends again! Josie still has her ebay store and her booth at Early Owego Antiques to keep her busy. And she always is out at garage sales, sourcing for items. After the summer is over we MIGHT look into a smaller building and start the whole thing again! We have all your phone numbers, vendors you might get a call! We love all our customers and vendors, have a great summer, until we meet again! Paul & Josie.....P&J.
