Celebrating Denise Gilmore

Today, we celebrate Denise Gilmore, Senior Director of the City of Birmingham’s Division of Social Justice and Racial Equity and a vital member of the Civil Rights District Stakeholder Group. Since joining Birmingham in 2018 as the Director of Cultural Preservation, Denise has brought her vision, leadership, and expertise to preserving and uplifting the city’s historic treasures, most notably the Historic Civil Rights District.

Her devotion to the City of Birmingham has been clear in her leadership to preserve, restore, and reimagine some of our most important historic and cultural spaces. She has strengthened partnerships, safeguarded history, and uplifted the people and stories that define our community.

As she transitions from her role, we are grateful for her time with us and celebrate the lasting impact of her service. Please join us in thanking Denise for her contributions and wishing her every success in this next chapter.
