Thinking of spring on this ground hog day with a little ditty painting 'Bee indulging in a pollen party', oil on canvas, 6 x 9 ". We've had really cold days this January here in Wisconsin...I sure do hope our bees made it!

Elk have been reintroduced to northern Wisconsin over the past thirty years, and the herd now numbers over 400 according to the Wisconsin DNR. Young elk are fitted with GPS collars to help researchers understand movement, herd dynamics, and habitat use.

I hope to encounter one of these quiet, powerful animals in the wild someday.

It is Indigenous People's day here in the US, and honoring Buffalo Calf Road Woman, Northern Cheyenne, oil on linen 17” x 20”, painted in 2019. Also known as 'Brave Woman', BCRW saved her wounded warrior brother in the Battle of the Rosebud of 1876. A warrior herself, Buffalo Calf Road Woman according to oral tradition struck George Armstrong Custer the blow that knocked him off his horse in the Battle of Little Bighorn and killed him.
A BRAVE WOMAN indeed!
