π MORE THAN JUST PUMPKINSβ¦ A FAMILY HEIRLOOM. π
Growing and picking pumpkins has always held such a special place in my heart. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been absolutely obsessed with pumpkin season. π§‘
This picture takes me way back. I was probably about 5 years old, and even then I was so excited to be out in the pumpkin patch helping Mom and Dad. I had no idea at the time just how much history was being made around me, or how deeply this tradition would become a part of my life.
There is a LOT of history behind pumpkins in the Brown family. My Grandpa Brown started growing pumpkins in the 50's, and in the late 80's, my dad took over and continued the tradition. Our original Brown's Farm Stand was on Brown Street here in Bloomington, where we sold thousands and thousands of pumpkins. π
I can still remember getting off the school bus and having Mom or Dad pick me up from the farm and take me down to the stand. Even at elementary school age, I wanted to help. I remember how much fun it was to sell pumpkins, talk to people, and watch families pick out their pumpkins for fall.
Brown's Produce was actually Bloomington's original you pick pumpkin farm!
Over the years, things have changed. Big box stores came along, and pumpkins became something you could easily pick up at a store. But we've learned to grow with the times while continuing to do what we've always done, grow our own.
And today, one of the most special parts for me is knowing that we're still growing some of the same varieties of pumpkins my Grandpa Brown used to grow.
So when you see our pumpkin patch, you're not just looking at pumpkins.
You're looking at generations of Brown family history.
You're looking at something my Grandpa started, my Dad carried forward, and now I'm lucky enough to continue.
These pumpkins represent childhood memories, family, hard work, tradition, and a love for the land that has been passed down through our family. β€οΈ
These are more than just pumpkins to us. They're a family heirloom. ππΎ
And every fall, when I walk through that pumpkin patch, a little part of that 5 year old girl who couldn't wait to help Mom and Dad is still there.π€π§‘π
Thank you for supporting our family farm this pumpkin season!
