Have you always wanted to learn how to create a quilt top? Our upcoming Quilting for Beginners class is the perfect place to start.

Over five sessions, instructors Rachel and Jo Ellen will guide you step-by-step through creating your own quilt top. You will learn fabric selection, rotary cutting, pattern reading, and precision piecing using five classic quilt blocks: the nine patch, rail fence, half-square triangle, and a combination rail/HST block.

By the end of the five weeks, you will have a finished 36" x 36" baby quilt or wall hanging top, along with the foundational skills and confidence to tackle full-sized quilting projects.

Dates: Tuesdays, September 1st through September 29th, 2026

Time: 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM

Location: University of Sewing

Skill Level: Beginner (must know how to thread and operate a sewing machine)

Looking to level up your sewing skills? Join us at the University of Sewing for our Beginner Friendly: Making a Drawstring Bag class on Saturday, August 15th, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to sew a clean hem, construct a casing for a drawstring, and box corners to add depth and shape to your bag. It is a great project for building confidence on the machine and learning foundational techniques you can use on future projects, and you will walk away with a completed drawstring bag.

All fabric and thread are included with your registration. This class is designed for beginners who already know how to thread and operate a sewing machine. If you are completely new to machine sewing, we recommend taking our Introducing the Sewing Machine class beforehand.

You are welcome to bring your own machine, or you can borrow one of our classroom machines by letting us know in advance.
