In July 2009 I became a biological mother for the first time, and I found myself needing to create in order to keep any semblance of sanity. I Love my child, but I needed an outlet, a catharsis - and making was just that. I had been binding books in my spare time since undergrad, and now, with (very little) time on my hands, I started binding again, only with scrap materials left around my home. I
began to list the handmade journals I was making on Etsy and eventually applied for my first craft show to sell those items. I'd never imagined I would build a business from that little bit of sanity, but that's exactly what happened. In 2010 I began to create lines of work with consistency to represent the brand I was creating. I wanted all of my designs to focus on repurposing materials, and creating something new and beautiful from something lost and forgotten. The vintage book box was borne from that philosophy, as were my leather journals and bags.
