When you’re sick, everyone says “hydrate, hydrate, hydrate” and its not just something moms made up.

Your body loses fluids a lot faster than normal when you have a fever, or even just a runny nose. When your body raises the temp to fight infection, you lose water through sweating and breathing. You breathe faster when you have a fever, and warm air leaving your lungs carries moisture with it.

Water and electrolytes help regulate your temperature, keep your energy up, and thin mucous so it drains more easily. Water (most of what your blood is made of) is also what carries your immune cells through your body to find and fight infection.
