Mystery Piece — I Need Your Help!

Okay, y’all… I have officially met my match.

I have this WOOD THING in the shop, and after taking it apart in my mind about 47 different ways, measuring it, studying the construction, and searching every description I can think of…

I GOT NOTHING.

Right now, it has been officially promoted to “The Mystery Piece.”

It has two long compartments, a center divider, a sloped section, some very interesting woodworking, and a few holes that seem like they probably had a purpose at some point in its life. I know somebody out there is going to look at these pictures and say, “Oh, honey… I KNOW exactly what that is.”

And if that somebody is you — PLEASE tell me!

What was it used for? What is it called? What did it hold? Was it part of something else?

I am throwing this one out to my wonderful customers because somebody out there has the obscure piece of knowledge I’m missing.

Help a shopkeeper out! Drop your best guess in the comments. And if you know for certain what it is, I may have to crown you the official winner of the “What in the world is that wooden thing?” contest.

So, I went to the SOHO South Health Expo and, as usual, came across a few things that caught my attention.

One of the coolest discoveries was Palo Azul. The wood itself doesn’t react to UV light, but the tea made from the bark does — the beautiful blue tea actually GLOWS under a UV light. 💙 I’m thinking about brewing some of this with some dry ice and a UV light at Halloween…. Would look so cool!

Naturally, I had to order some. I’ll be trying it out and seeing what I think.

I also picked up some samples of H₂ molecular hydrogen tablets, which dissolve in water and are taken as a hydrogen-infused drink. The product pictured is not the one I ordered, but I have the ones I chose on the way, along with a few other things that caught my interest.

I also have a handful of miscellaneous samples that I don’t plan to carry, but I’m happy to share them with my customers while I have them.

There are still a few more products I’m researching, so this is definitely to be continued…

🕯️ Well, well… look what we have here.

Three ladies with a little ‘history’…

They’ve got curves in all the right places, elegant necks, tiny waists, and just enough glass to make you wonder what kind of evenings they witnessed.

Before electricity made everything so convenient, these beauties were the ones setting the mood. A little kerosene, a little flame, and suddenly the room had a whole different kind of glow.

And don’t let their innocent appearance fool you…

One is dressed in deep turquoise blue glass, another in a gorgeous rose/amber-colored glass, and the third is a beautiful clear glass example with an Aladdin Nu-Type Model B burner — marked Made in Chicago, U.S.A.

These aren’t just old lamps.

They’re little pieces of the evenings before the light switch… when people actually had to slow down, sit a spell, and let the room glow around them.

A little eye candy for those that appreciate true furniture craftsmanship!

This little table has curves that would make a supermodel blush!
From those beautifully turned legs to that gorgeous fan-patterned top, she knows exactly how to make an entrance!

And then there’s this fabulous old washstand with its original basin and pitcher—because apparently even back then, you were expected to have your bathroom accessories match.
The basin is marked John Maddock & Sons, Royal Vitreous, England, and it’s still looking pretty darn good after all these years!

Two pieces of old-fashioned charm, ready to bring a little history—and a LOT of personality—home. ❤️
