New on the blog. If you grow at home in California, do you actually know your legal plant limit?

The short version is 6 living plants per household, not per person, and where you grow matters. Indoor is protected statewide, but your city or county can restrict or even ban growing outdoors. Even seedlings and clones count toward the six.

The part that stood out to me writing this up is that most folks who go over never meant to. A few clones in the corner, a couple extra starts popped just in case, and the count quietly creeps past the limit. Keeping an honest running count is the simplest way to stay on the right side of it.

If you take clones, you know the pain of losing track of which cutting came from which mother a few generations in.

I wrote up how I keep it straight this year. Every cut links back to its parent automatically, so I can pull up any plant and walk the whole family tree, all the way back to the mother it came from.

For years I tracked my grows in a messy spreadsheet, half my notes made no sense a month later, and I could never remember which plant was which.

This season I finally built myself something better. Every plant gets its own page with photos, watering history, and a timeline I can actually scroll back through. Night and day difference.

Anyone else start with the spreadsheet and guesswork method before smartening up? How do you all keep your grow records?
