CIS Thrift Shop at Boiling Spring Lakes

CIS Thrift Shop at Boiling Spring Lakes Communities In Schools (CIS) was founded nationally in the 1970's. Our core program, Action for Success, focuses its work on dropout prevention.

All monies raised in our thrift shops support CIS programs provided to students in Brunswick County Schools.

Important Operational Change: Due to the overwhelming volume of donations that we are blessed to be receiving from our communities, we have made the decision to limit donation days to keep our processing team safe and to improve efficiency. Beginning June 1, 2026, Donation Drop Offs will ONLY BE ACCEPTED on the following days:
Mondays- 10am-4pm
Wednesdays- 10am-4pm
Saturdays- 10am-4pm
We understand that this will be an adjustment and ask for your support as we make this change to create a better donation experience for everyone. We also ask that if you have a donation larger than a vehicle-full, that you reach out to the shop directly to set up a time that we can be best prepared to assist you. Thank you again for your understanding and for being .

As we continue celebrating National Volunteer Month, we stop to thank and recognize three more wonderful volunteers at our CIS Thrift Shop in Boiling Spring Lakes.

Mary Rowe (left) has volunteered with us for the past 5 months, helping to sort and price donations for the sales floor. She previously worked as a team lead, a department manager, and a zone manager so she brings great experience with her to benefit our organization! Mary volunteers because she wants to help her community. She always brings joy and laughter to the team and is described by the shop Manager, Brian Sanie, as being jovial with everyone.

Pam Frandano (center) is a member of the CIS Board of Directors and knows how vital the thrift shops are to helping us fulfill our mission to serve at risk students so they can stay in school and graduate ready for bright futures. Pam is a former small business owner and her son is a previous employee of the Southport thrift shop. We thank Pam for volunteering to serve both on our Board of Directors and in our thrift shops. She is a wonderful advocate for our work and a great support for the other volunteers at the thrift shops.

Marjorie McAteer (right) has volunteered for the past 5 months at both our Southport and BSL thrift shops. She previously volunteered for 7 years with another local non-profit thrift shop, bringing with her a wealth of experience. She enjoys knowing her time volunteering supports local schools. She is a hard worker and is willing to tackle whatever task needs to be done. We are so grateful for her support!

We thank this trio of ladies for all they bring to our CIS Thrift Shops and our organization. We are happy to have each one of them as part of our team!

In honor of National Volunteer Month, today we recognize two of our Boiling Spring Lakes CIS Thrift Shop volunteers, Christine and Tina.

These ladies work hard behind the scenes to help receive, sort, prepare, price, and display clothing and other items for sale in our shop. Christine has been volunteering with us for the past 5 months, and volunteers because the items sold in the shop help fund our school-based programs. Christine worked previously as both an insurance agent and a restaurant owner. She is very detail-oriented, has great organizational skills, and is always kind to everyone! She is a true asset to the shop and our organization!

Tina brings a great sense of humor to the shop and an upbeat attitude! She also volunteers at the local food pantry and serves as a liaison between the thrift shop and the food pantry, sharing donations between the two organizations when either receives items they cannot use but the other can, so nothing goes to waste. When not volunteering, Tina enjoys traveling and has enjoyed many fun adventures in her retirement.

Thankyou ladies for devoting your time, energy, and positivity to the BSL Thrift Shop! It is greatly appreciated.
