After 8 months- it's finally done.
It all started with the owner of Nari-, the 9 year-old Akita, coming to my house with a 5 lb bag of brushed fur, which she collected over 7 years.
This fur is very short and would not make a very good yarn by itself... so I blended 60% Akita with 40% Alpaca and mixed wools.

The resulting 2 ply yarn is both strong and soft.....and the finished scarf will become softer and fluffier with wear. Canine and feline Yarns are very much alive....the appearance, texture, and feel continue to evolve long after the spinning and knitting are done.
(My personal Husky scarf, after 2 years, looks more like a pelt than crocheted yarn)

Using up some Idaho-raised Alpaca odds n' ends for this 3-ply heavy worsted yarn.
Would love to do this type of tri-color marl with 3 different colored cats or dogs.

This is the end result of the custom I've been working on. It will be sewn onto the owner's 'memory pillow'.
***If anyone is interested in having/doing something similar, I can do this with +/- 1oz brushed fur fiber from your beloved canine or feline, for around $50.***

For those who don't know- my main work is in herbalism, medicine-making, and Incense-making-working with our local Idaho/Northwest wild healing plants, all to work on many levels of healing.

Hi everyone!
With Fall, then Winter, in the near future, I am wanting to secure fiber to keep me spinning! It seems most dog owners Ive met have no desire to have yarn/item made from their dog (let alone pay an artist to do it). This will change I hope.
In the mean time, I would like to ask you all to ***share this post***---
ALL DOG OWNERS --- Do you have a cold weather breed (or other long/warm/or other interesting qualities ) who sheds?
******** I AM LOOKING FOR CONTRIBUTIONS OF A WIDE VARIETY OF CANINE FUR TO SPIN!*********
A brushing every other day can yeild a great deal of fiber over a few months or more. Alert your groomer!- they can wash pooch before brushing/etc.- which makes my job a bit easier.

*Of course, I would still like to offer my services to anyone who would like to have a custom yarn or finished item made!!!! This inquiry is for my own personal purposes.
