BOISE MUSHROOM COMPANY IS AN AC INFINITY DEALER

Building a mushroom grow room or upgrading your current setup? You don't have to order everything online.

Boise Mushroom Company is an AC Infinity dealer, and we carry AC Infinity products that can be used to build and control mushroom fruiting environments.

AC Infinity equipment is a great fit for mushroom cultivation because growers need to manage several environmental conditions at once. Depending on your setup, that can include fresh-air exchange, humidity, temperature, air circulation, and lighting.

At Boise Mushroom Company, you can find AC Infinity products for mushroom-growing setups, including equipment such as:

• Grow tents
• Inline ventilation fans
• Ducting and ventilation components
• Circulation fans
• Humidity equipment
• Environmental controllers
• Lighting and accessories
• Other grow-room equipment

The biggest advantage of buying locally is that you're not simply buying a piece of equipment. You can talk to people who actually grow mushrooms.

We can help you determine what equipment makes sense for your fruiting chamber, tent, or grow room and how the different components can work together.

Whether you're building your first small mushroom fruiting tent or expanding into a larger cultivation setup, stop by and see what we have available.

Looking for a particular AC Infinity product? Ask us. If we don't currently have it on the shelf, talk with us about what you need.

A NEW WEEK AT BOISE MUSHROOM COMPANY — AND FUNGI ARE BACK IN THE SCIENCE NEWS

Tuesday means the start of another week here at Boise Mushroom Company!

The grow rooms are growing, the lab is running, and we're back at the shop Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM–6 PM.

And here's an interesting piece of mushroom science to start the week:

Researchers recently took a closer look at how different fungi break down lignocellulose, the tough structural material that makes up much of wood and other plant matter.

Using several types of biological data together—including genomics, proteins and metabolites—scientists studied five different fungi and found that they don't all approach plant material the same way. Different fungi have evolved different molecular strategies for accessing and using these natural carbon sources.

That's pretty interesting when you're a mushroom grower!

When we select substrates for different mushroom species, we're taking advantage of something fungi have been doing in nature for an incredibly long time: breaking complex organic materials down and turning them into fungal growth.

It's also one reason mushroom cultivation isn't necessarily a one-substrate-fits-all operation. The substrate, moisture, sterilization or pasteurization method, mushroom species, temperature and environment can all influence what happens in the bag.

That's the kind of science we get to put into practice every day at Boise Mushroom Company.

This week at the shop, stop in for:

• Fresh gourmet mushrooms
• Colonized mushroom grow blocks
• Sterilized grain and substrates
• Liquid cultures and agar supplies
• All-in-one grow bags
• Mushroom growing equipment
• Small-batch tinctures and capsules
• Our in-house mushroom coffee
• Lab and mycology supplies

Whether you're growing your very first bag or you've been working with fungi for years, come by and talk mushrooms with us.

Boise's Air Quality Is a Reminder That Clean Air Matters—For You and Your Mycology Projects

If you've stepped outside in the Treasure Valley over the past few days, you've probably noticed the thick smoke hanging over Boise. Wildfire smoke has pushed air quality into unhealthy levels at times, filling the air with microscopic particles (PM2.5) that are small enough to travel deep into your lungs.

The photos below show exactly what we've been seeing in the shop.
Our particle monitor reads: • Inside our clean room with the FFU running: PM2.5 = 0 µg/m³ (essentially particle-free air) • Out in the store during the smoke event: PM2.5 have been reaching Moderate to Unhealthy air quality.
That's an incredible difference.
For mushroom cultivation, these airborne particles aren't just a health concern—they also carry dust, mold spores, bacteria, and other contaminants that can dramatically increase contamination rates when you're working with agar, liquid culture, or grain spawn.
This is why clean air matters in mycology.
At Boise Mushroom Company, every culture transfer, liquid culture, agar plate, and grain inoculation is performed in front of a Fan Filter Unit (FFU) or inside a properly used Still Air Box (SAB).

Our Sterile Workflow

A sterile environment isn't created by one tool alone—it's a process.
Before any work begins we:
• Thoroughly clean the workspace. • Wipe all working surfaces with 70% isopropyl alcohol. • Load all sterile materials before starting. • Wear clean gloves and sanitize them frequently with alcohol. • Flame sterilize scalpels and inoculation tools until red hot, allowing them to cool before use. • Minimize movement to reduce air turbulence. • Work directly in clean, filtered laminar airflow (FFU) or inside the still air box. • Seal cultures immediately after transfers. • Clean and disinfect everything again after the session.
A good sterile technique combined with clean air dramatically reduces the chance of contamination.

FFU vs. Still Air

Still Air Box (SAB) • Affordable • Excellent for hobby growers • No moving air means fewer airborne contaminants reaching your work • Great for agar work, grain transfers, and liquid culture
Fan Filter Unit (FFU) • HEPA-filtered laminar airflow • Professional-level clean workspace • Faster and more comfortable to work in • Ideal for frequent culture work and higher production • Helps maintain consistently low particle counts—even when outdoor air quality is poor
Whether you're just getting started or you're producing cultures every week, having the right equipment can save countless hours and contaminated projects.

Available at Boise Mushroom Company
We currently have:
✅ Ready-to-use Still Air Boxes ✅ Professional Fan Filter Units (FFUs) ✅ Sterile supplies ✅ Agar supplies ✅ Liquid culture supplies ✅ Grain spawn materials ✅ Expert advice to help you build a cleaner workflow
Stop by the shop if you'd like to see the difference for yourself. We're happy to demonstrate the particle monitor, explain our sterilization process, and help you choose the right setup for your growing goals.

Always remember: sterile technique is just as important as the equipment you use. Even the best FFU or Still Air Box can't make up for poor sterile practices.

Building Healthy Grain Spawn

Every successful mushroom harvest starts long before you see the mushrooms—it begins with properly prepared grain spawn.

The process starts by hydrating the grain to the correct moisture level. Too dry, and the mycelium struggles to grow. Too wet, and unwanted contaminants have a better chance of taking hold.
Once the grain reaches the ideal moisture content, it's loaded into filter patch bags or jars and sterilized in an autoclave (or pressure sterilizer). This step uses high heat and pressure to eliminate bacteria, molds, and other microorganisms, creating a clean environment for mushroom mycelium to thrive.

After sterilization and cooling, the grain is inoculated in a clean workspace using liquid culture or clean agar cultures. Over the next few weeks, the mycelium spreads throughout the grain, creating healthy grain spawn that can later be used to inoculate bulk substrates for mushroom production.

At Boise Mushroom Company, we enjoy sharing the science behind mushroom cultivation. Whether you're just getting started or have been growing for years, there's always something new to learn about the fascinating world of fungi.

Have questions about grain spawn or mushroom cultivation? Stop by the shop or leave a comment—we're always happy to talk mycology!

Mushroom Fact Saturday!

Did you know that mushrooms don't really need sunlight to grow? Some Mushroom use light for directional growth know as positive phototropism, Some Mushrooms like Cordyceps will not "Pin" without light.

Unlike plants, mushrooms are fungi. They get their energy by breaking down organic material instead of using photosynthesis. That's why they thrive in cool, humid environments.

Growing mushrooms is part science, part art, and we love sharing that process with our customers.

Stop in this weekend if you'd like to learn more about mushroom cultivation or pick up supplies to start growing your own!

Have you ever grown mushrooms at home?
