Drawn To Create I design hand-drawn surface patterns rooted in nature, heritage, and the beauty of quiet places. Shop on Spoonflower.

Fabric and wallpaper for interiors that feel collected, warm, and full of character, the rooms you never want to leave. At Drawn to Create, I believe crafting is about joy, connection, and self-expression. Jay Marie Design Studio is the shop where those ideas become SVGs & printables — tools to help you join in the fun of making and creating.

There's an Eastern redbud tree in my backyard that I've watched through many seasons.

I knew its pink blossoms in spring, its heart-shaped leaves, and the seed pods that appear later in the year.

But sometimes seeing something isn't quite the same as really looking at it.

When I began paying closer attention to those seed pods—their shape, their structure, all the little details I had passed over before—I started to see how beautiful they really were.

I photographed them. I drew them. And after watching the tree through the seasons, it almost felt inevitable. Over time, it became my Eastern Redbud herbarium botanical study.

I keep thinking about how often that happens with the familiar. We see something every day, until one day we look just a little more closely—and find there was more there all along.

Sometimes the familiar has more to show us.
We only have to pause long enough to see it.

I wrote more about this in the latest Letters from the Studio, The Hundred and First Time. You can read the letter at the link in my bio.

Do you think a pattern can change the way something feels?

The artwork is the same, but seeing it on a dress that catches the breeze instead of covering a wall tells an entirely different story.

That’s one of the things I love most about surface pattern design. A collection isn’t meant for just one surface—it’s an invitation to imagine the many places it could live.

Every place it lives reveals something different about the artwork.

Where would you love to see this design next?

One of the questions I hear most often is, "Which Spoonflower fabric should I choose?"

The good news is that you don't have to guess.

Every design I create can be printed on dozens of different fabrics — and each one is suited to something a little different. The same pattern that becomes a swingy little dress can just as easily become a tote you carry every day, or a pillow that settles into your living room like it's always been there.

One pattern. Different fabrics. Different projects. Different homes.

Spoonflower makes it easy to browse and search fabric types right from the design page, so you can find the right one for whatever you're making — no guesswork required.

Is there a Spoonflower fabric you've been curious about? Let me know — I'd love to cover it in a future Design Notes post. 🧵

I love this!

I stumbled upon this quote years ago while trying to grow my business and I decided to make it my mantra. It still lights a fire within me.

Even when things feel like they are falling apart around me, I insist that things will work out for me. That doesn't mean life doesn't feel hard sometime. It can get big and heavy, of course. But I know I have an inner strength that will carry me through. (And, if you run a business you know that it's not for the faint of heart.)

Even in times of insanity and chaos, life can still be so beautiful. Sometimes we need to be a bit delusional to be able to create magic for ourselves. Intentionally choosing to believe in ourselves can carry us through so much and transform our lives.

Declare what you want. Believe that you are wildly capable. Go all in. And it sure doesn't hurt to quietly expect great things to happen to you. 🩷
