Gourd Art by Karen Unique , one of a kind southwest and Indian influenced art made from gourds and other natural materials My "love affair" with the gourd started 10 years ago.

Returning from Big Bend , Tx. , I noticed a sign " Gourd Farm " . I was nosey; followed the signs and carried home 3 garbage bags full of various sized, shaped , and colored gourds. Hence; it has now turned into my passion. My Aunt and Uncle in Watseka, Il. are my back up gourd growers , as Oklahoma weather is not always considerate . I live east of Durant , Ok. Oklahoma was Indian Territory befor

e it petitioned for statehood. At one time approx. 127 different tribes were forced to relocate and call Indian Territory home . For too many it became the " Trail of Tears " . Native American, Western , and Southwestern influence tend to be the dominate features for my gourd creations . Hand painted and burned bowls , ollas, butterflies , dolls , Kachinas and pendants live here . I hope you get as much enjoyment viewing my work as I do bringing it to life !
