Congrats to our Dad on his induction into the Badger Athletics Hall of Fame! 🎉🦡❤️

Congratulations to our next Class of 2026 Inductee, Jack Yount. Jack Duane Yount was born January 12, 1954, the tenth out of fourteen children of Jim and Iris Yount. Growing up at McArthur Lake provided ample opportunities for outdoor activities. From basketball to football to the high jump/pole vault pit that his dad helped build by hauling a pickup load of sawdust for the “pit,” Jack honed his athletic skills at Naples Elementary School, where he still holds the discus record set in 1968. A big influence during this time was Dan Meddock, his first real coach, and his older brother Dale, who was “All Mr. Everything” in his eyes.

At Bonners Ferry High School, Jack was involved in many sports and activities in both school and church. Jack holds the dubious distinction of lettering four years in track and never making it to state! Football, always being his favorite sport, soon became his focus. Thrust into a starting role midway through his sophomore season, Jack ran for 376 yards and 6 touchdowns. As a junior, Jack ran for 1,434 yards and 23 touchdowns on a senior-laden team that was undefeated in league play. Intermountain League champs—what a feeling! Jack ran for 1,614 yards and 20 touchdowns his senior season. That included a record of 333 yards rushing against St. Maries that stood until this past season.

Jack’s career marks that still stand include 3,424 yards rushing and 49 touchdowns on 533 carries, for an average of just over 6.42 yards per carry. He kicked 19 extra points, picked up 10 two-point conversions, and kicked 2 field goals for a total of 339 points. Unofficial records include the longest run from scrimmage of 95 yards and 4 interceptions on defense in a single game.

Jack’s later life centered around his wife, Shelly; three daughters, Kaylen, Kendall, and Kinsie; and four grandchildren. Being a logging contractor and owner of several businesses keeps Jack busy these days. As past president of the Badger Booster Club and someone who helped run the gym for Kiwanis youth basketball for many years, Jack has been a big supporter of Bonners Ferry athletics and kids. Go Badgers!
